Q&A WITH TALA ALNOUNOU

How did your job as the Head of Marketing at MENA influence your decision to pursue the Executive Master in Strategic Marketing & Communication?

Leading marketing for a multidisciplinary firm across such a dynamic region made me realize how fast the landscape of communication is evolving from digital transformation to stakeholder trust and brand purpose. I wanted to deepen my strategic understanding and bring more structure, data, and foresight into how we communicate impact. The role challenged me to think beyond campaigns to design systems of meaning, and the Executive Master at IE became the perfect space to explore that.

Why did you choose to study the Executive Master in Strategic Marketing & Communication at IE Business School?

I chose IE because of its unique blend of academic depth and global perspective. It’s a school that truly embraces diversity of thought and pushes you to connect marketing with leadership, ethics, and innovation. The program’s emphasis on strategic thinking and measurable impact felt tailor-made for someone like me who operates in both creative and corporate ecosystems.

How does the part time format helped you balance your work and studies?

The flexibility of the program was crucial. It allowed me to stay fully engaged at work while immediately applying the tools and frameworks I was learning. The professors understood the realities of executive life balancing board meetings with deadlines and designed the learning experience to be immersive, yet realistic. It taught me discipline, but also the art of integration: how to make learning part of daily decision-making. For sure it was challenging at times but we had full support with everyone from the ie team who were involved in the program.

Beyond the classroom, how has the IE network (professors, peers, alumni) contributed to your professional development?

The IE network has been one of the most rewarding aspects. My classmates' senior leaders from across industries became thought partners and collaborators. The professors, many of whom are industry practitioners, sparked meaningful conversations that continue beyond class. This network expanded my perspective, deepened my empathy as a leader, and reinforced that marketing is as much about connection as it is about communication.

How are you applying what you’ve learned in the master in your current organization?

I’ve been able to embed new strategic frameworks into our marketing operations from building measurable KPI systems to integrating behavioral insights into our campaigns. The program also reshaped how I lead my team: with more clarity, purpose, and alignment between creativity and data which is key to facilitate wide buy-in and help evolve our strategy. Ultimately, it helped me elevate marketing’s role within the organization from a support function to a strategic driver of growth and reputation. Currently working on 3 major revamp projects that hopefully will kick off by the end of the year and I can't wait for the impact we will create collectively.

What advice would you give to someone considering the Executive Master in Strategic Marketing & Communication program?

Do it with intention. Don’t come in just to learn, come to transform how you think. The program will challenge you to confront your blind spots, redefine your leadership voice, and design your next chapter with purpose and also discover the next best you. It’s not only an academic journey, it’s a deeply personal one: one that teaches you how to communicate not just to the world, but from it.
