If educational prerequisites are not provided and/or if the requirements are not met on time, the student will not be able to request the official university degree as issued by the Spanish government. The Global Online MBA experience
Online Periods
Our virtual campus delivers a challenging and highly interactive educational experience. The live faculty-led sessions are designed to fit into your busy schedule and can be accessed anywhere there’s an internet connection. Engage with other global professionals in synchronous and asynchronous sessions including interactive small groups where you work on real-world, industry-based case studies. Online learning includes two foundational modules focused on helping you develop strong business acumen.
Live Sessions
On Saturdays, you will engage in virtual discussions about the topic that is determined for the day. These sessions are truly an extension of the traditional classroom experience. They let you negotiate and work with your classmates and professors in the same classroom, no matter where in the world you are.
Asynchronous online discussions
Connect anytime, anywhere. Students can participate in the faculty-led asynchronous sessions every week from Monday to Thursday. Professors will moderate these written discussions about chosen topics and help you achieve your learning objectives.
Face-to-face periods
After getting to know your classmates virtually, you will be able to meet them in person at all-day workshops and classes where you can develop your soft skills and teamwork. You’ll get the most out of an in-person experience, but we understand that some people’s circumstances might require 100% online participation. Either way, we encourage you to take advantage of Madrid after class and take part in the different networking events available every night.
Global Inmmersion week
Participate in an optional face-to-face week, discover a new destination, find out about the local business environment and interact with IE peers and alumni from some of our other MBA programs. In the past, these destinations have included San Francisco, São Paulo, Singapore, Miami, Shanghai, and Mumbai.

As the Vice Dean of Executive MBA programs, Lucia is dedicated to guiding leaders in discovering their purpose and creating sustainable, long-lasting business models. With over 20 years of international corporate experience and a passion for finance, she excels in solving complex problems through a blend of analytical thinking and creativity, fostering positive disruption in the process. In her role as an adjunct professor, Lucia enjoys teaching financial reporting and analysis, as well as entrepreneurship, across various programs within IE University. Her boundless curiosity and energy drive her to be a lifelong learner, with interests spanning futures design, human-centered approaches and digitalization. Lucia holds double cum laude degrees in business studies from Spain and the UK. She also has an Executive MBA from IE Business School, for which she was named the top student in her cohort.

How is networking facilitated in an online/blended program or in a virtual learning environment?
More Than an MBA, An International Community: By enrolling in our Global Online MBA, you'll dive into an experience that transcends academic learning. You'll connect with a global community, turning your education into a true journey of development and discovery. Here's how it works:
Interactive and Engaging Classes: The program offers both online and in-person classes which encourage dynamic collaboration among students from diverse locations around the world. This real-time interaction facilitates the development of strong connections and provides a platform for inspiring in-depth discussions.
Term-Based Work Groups: Each term, students are grouped into teams to work on various projects and assignments. Active participation in Project-Based Learning and Business Sprints throughout the week is required to ensure the successful completion of group tasks, creating multiple opportunities for students to connect and work together on different projects.
Four One-Week Residentials: The program includes four one-week residentials, held at IE University's Madrid campus and other international locations. During these weeks, students come together in person to take part in curriculum-related activities and extracurricular events. Additionally, IE University organizes a wide variety of networking events, providing students with opportunities to connect with other members of the university community.
Online networking events: As an MBA student at IE Business School, you will benefit from plentiful opportunities to connect online with peers from across our MBA programs, such as our popular bimonthly MBA Impact Hour.
What are the face-to-face periods like?
The program incorporates two types of in-person residencies:
- Residential On-Campus Week in Madrid: Three required one-week residential sessions occur on our Madrid campus, one in each term. Participants, hailing from diverse locations worldwide, converge to engage in face-to-face curricular sessions, team-building activities, leadership workshops, networking events, career workshops, and more. While attendance is compulsory, physical presence is not obligatory. If unable to travel, students can opt to join these residencies online, though active encouragement is extended for on-site participation, which is the preference for most attendees.
- Global Immersion Week: Students have the flexibility to choose from various cities for the Global Immersion Week experience. During this extracurricular phase, participants have the opportunity to attend local universities, visit regional corporations, startups, and other businesses. Networking and enjoyable activities are integral components of the Global Immersion Week. Past destinations have included Dubai, San Francisco, Berlin, Singapore, and others. Attendance at the Global Immersion Week is entirely optional.
What does a typical week look like?
Given that students are concurrently employed in full-time positions throughout the program, a typical week entails a balance between regular work commitments and additional academic responsibilities. The schedule involves live virtual conferences on Saturdays, spanning three and a half hours. Additionally, participants engage in asynchronous written forum discussions from Monday to Thursday, allowing flexibility for involvement during available time slots throughout the day. Continuous communication within work groups is imperative, involving collaborative efforts to fulfill group assignments, analyze cases, and prepare presentations. Typically, students allocate approximately 15-20 hours per week to meet the academic demands of the program.
What are the videoconferences like?
Prepare to be captivated! Our video conferences are not your average lectures; they're dynamic, interactive sessions led by seasoned professors who are masters at delivering an exceptional online learning experience. Mainly using the case method, our program demands active engagement from students. Dive deep into case studies before each session and get ready to share your insights and perspectives. It's not just about listening; it's about actively participating, shaping discussions, and enriching your learning journey.
