About me

For my bachelor’s degree, I studied Spanish Language and Literature and, once I graduated, I started to work at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing. This experience made me very curious about international affairs and intergovernmental cooperation. In my free time, I love outdoor activities and once hiked and camped in the mountains of Tibet for a week. I am also a member of the IE Sailing and IE Hiking clubs.

“The IE-CSC Full Scholarship program is a great opportunity for those who want an unforgettable learning experience and an intellectual adventure in Madrid.”

Ningxuan Huang

From Beijing to Madrid to pursue an international career

Ningxuan chose IE University thanks to its position as one of the best universities in Spain—her former superiors at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing, including diplomats, spoke very highly of the university. The Master in International Relations stood out to her because of her experience working at the embassy and experiencing the world of politics over four years. She believes this program will steer her career in a new direction, where she may be able to contribute to society on an international scale.

Ningxuan makes the most of the various events, seminars and lectures that are made available to her every day at IE University; she’s fascinated by the number of resources offered to students. So far, her favorite class has been Probability and Statistics. Having previously been very resistant to computer science and math, she didn’t anticipate enjoying something that would bring these two disciplines together. The class has taught her how to use the software R language to analyze and solve complex statistics problems. As part of her program, Ningxuan has learned the art of critical thinking and gained a very international perspective.

Truly embracing being in the heart of Madrid, Ningxuan has recently discovered Casa Encendida—a social and cultural center that organizes cultural programs including art exhibitions, films and workshops. She is enjoying living in such a dynamic city that always has something going on.

Although still in the middle of her studies, Ningxuan is already considering her future. She has ambitions to work in a humanitarian agency of the United Nations—such as UNICEF, UNHCR, or others—to contribute directly to the communities that need help the most. Although she doesn’t know exactly what she will be doing down the line, Ningxuan isn’t worried thanks to the careers support she is already aware of at the university, including the IE Talent & Careers team, the job and internship forums and other events where she can network with companies and organizations she is interested in.

Before making the decision to quit her job to work on her master’s degree, Ningxuan shares that she was indecisive, hesitant and riddled with anxiety. She encourages future IE University candidates to learn from her mistakes and spend time researching and gathering information before questioning a decision they haven’t made yet.

Ningxuan’s arrival at IE University was made possible by the CSC-IE Scholarship for Sustainable Development for Chinese Candidates. This full scholarship program is a partnership between IE University and the China Scholarship Council that offers scholarships to academically successful individuals. It is a great opportunity for those who want an unforgettable learning experience and an intellectual adventure in Madrid, surrounded by a diverse community. She advises candidates to follow international current affairs and hone their independent thinking skills to be successful in the program.
