Specialized Master’s Degree programs follow the structure shown above, including:

OVERALL ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
To earn both diplomas from a Dual Degree, the DD student must meet all academic requirements based on the evaluation system of each program in order to obtain both diplomas. In cases of withdrawal or dismissal from a program, please see the Leave Policy below.
WHAT ARE COURSE RECOGNITIONS?
Course recognitions (often called “co-validations”) make your Dual Degree program possible, since these courses are recognized for credit between one program and another within the Dual Degree combination. These subjects are chosen and reviewed by each program’s leadership in terms of content overlap and/or relationship to other courses offered in one program or the other. Both credits and grades for the chosen courses are transferred into the corresponding program and are represented in that final transcript and GPA of the DD student.
Course recognition information will be shared around the time of the Dual Degree Transition Information Session this spring. If any modifications are made, DDs will be informed accordingly.
ETHICS
Dual Degree students sign an Ethics Code in which they agree not to share materials from IMBA courses (classes, notes, exams, etc.) with classmates in the corresponding Specialized Master’s Degree. Failure to respect this requirement results in an Ethics Code breach and will carry with it the corresponding consequences.
CAMPUS FACILITIES AND ONLINE ACCESS FOR DD STUDENTS
To access IE’s campuses, DD students use facial recognition to access IE facilities during both programs. For online access to all things IE, students maintain only one IE student e-mail address and online access during both programs.
EXIT EXAMS
You must complete the exit exams for both degree programs:
Program leadership will provide all relevant information in due time.
TRANSCRIPTS, DIPLOMAS, AND GRADUATION
Students may request a to-date transcript at any time in either of the programs. Final official transcripts will not be available until the successful completion of the Specialized Master’s Degree, when all credits and grades have been finalized and transferred.
The IMBA and Specialized Master’s Degree diplomas are awarded at their corresponding graduation ceremonies, both taking place in July 2025 (dates TBC).
Dual Degree students may request to change their second program before the established deadline by contacting the Dual Degree Admissions Team (DualDegrees@ie.edu). These requests will be carefully reviewed, as admission to one Specialized Master within a Dual Degree does not guarantee admission to another.
In accordance with the IE Financial Aid policy, it may be possible for DD students who change Specialized Master’s Degree programs to maintain any previous scholarships awarded. Each case will be reviewed accordingly.
Academic Leave
If a student is academically dismissed from the IMBA program, they will not be able to attend the Specialized Master’s Degree program. If a student is academically dismissed from the Specialized Master’s Degree program, they will not receive a degree for the IMBA nor the Specialized Master. Students who have been dismissed for academic reasons may not reapply to either program of the Dual Degree. Such students also may not apply to any other master’s degree program at IE for two years.
In case of expulsion for reasons of ethics, the student will not be allowed to apply again for any master’s degree program at IE.
Voluntary Leave
If a student takes a voluntary leave in the IMBA, they will be able to request a change of intake and to start the Dual Degree in the following intake (exact start date and terms to be reviewed for each case, as well as any financial implications). If the student would like to study only the Specialized Master’s Degree, they may request such a change, but the financial conditions will be reviewed according to the conditions stipulated in the enrollment contract.
If a student takes a voluntary leave in the Specialized Master’s Degree, they may request a change of intake and start the Dual Degree in the following intake.
If a student decides not to pursue the Specialized Master’s Degree at any point, they forfeit the conditions of the Dual Degree contract, the corresponding scholarship, and the place reservation paid for the Specialized Master’s Degree. They are then required to pay 100% of the IMBA Program, in addition to having to complete all remaining components/requirements of the IMBA in order to receive the diploma.
Please pay attention to the established deadline for requesting withdrawal from the Dual Degree program (TBD) and be aware of these repercussions. Failure to observe the deadline may imply having to delay the completion even of the IMBA degree itself.
Default Leave
If a student is informed that they must leave the program due to a lack of payment fulfillment, the student will not be able to continue in either of the programs and will not receive a diploma for either program. In case of financial expulsion, the student will not be allowed to reapply to any master’s degree program at IE.
REQUESTING AN OFFICIAL DEGREE (WHEN APPLICABLE)
The IMBA is an official degree, meaning you can choose to obtain the official diploma from the Spanish Ministry of Education.
Some of the Specialized Master’s Degrees at IE are also official, and students may also request that official degree if enrolled. Other Specialized Master’s Degrees are University Private Degrees from IE Universidad*.
The Registrar’s Office will inform you about the requirements for the official degree diploma for corresponding programs in due time. DD students MUST follow the official degree enrollment requirements for BOTH programs (if applicable) by EACH program’s deadline. Note: if you enroll in a Dual Degree after the IMBA has begun, you must have enrolled for the official degree of the IMBA by the deadline presented by the Registrar’s Office.
IMPORTANT: Physical diplomas for the official degree are issued directly by the Ministry of Education, which charges 220€ for each diploma (this fee may vary).
Questions? Contact registrar@ie.edu.
DDs take advantage of T&C services from both of their degree programs, although timing may differ. Students should still plan to participate in all mandatory T&C activities in the IMBA, but may request specialized advice from the corresponding T&C advisor.
The T&C team provides special support for DD students and will explain unique benefits for DD students at the beginning of the IMBA Program. In subsequent DD touchpoints, T&C will also be present to provide additional DD-specific information and give guidance to DD students.
ALUMNI STATUS
You will have an associated alumni status for a period of two years after your graduation from both degree programs. After this two-year period, you will have non-associated alumni status and may register with the Alumni Association to continue to have the benefits of an associated alumnus.
POST-GRADUATION OPPORTUNITIES
After the conclusion of the Specialized Master’s Degree, there may be the opportunity to participate in additional post-graduation opportunities. Details and requirements will be given by the corresponding Specialized Master’s Program closer to time, if applicable.
