Paris de l’Etraz has spent over 20 years in investment banking and venture capital, mainly at UBS Bank and ABN AMRO. In 1999, he receieved his first of two patents regarding contact networking. Since 2005, he has continued to be in the business of either raising funds, setting up new companies, selling or buying companies through his group Amazing Lab. He has a keen interest for what makes an entrepreneur and what he/she needs to succeed. In particular he has focused on seed capital, in digital marketing, sports management, video games, renewable energy and new technology industries.

At the Venture Lab we offer students a unique opportunity to launch their own startup while studying for their MBA or Masters. The Venture Lab is one of the most important initiatives developed by the International Center for Entrepreneurial Management. The aim of the Venture Lab is to incubate the development and consolidation of business start-ups, providing high-quality “deal flow” within a global network of investors. The Venture Lab isn’t only a business plan competition or a chance for students to entertain interesting business ideas; it is a unique opportunity for students with entrepreneurial spirit and disruptive ideas to begin the process of transforming those concepts into investment-worthy companies. It is open to all students of all programs at IE, although its admissions process is highly selective.

The Venture Days are IE Business School´s international investor forums where the school´s best start-up projects are showcased to an audience of local and international investors. The Ventures Days are celebrated throughout the year in a number of international locations including Madrid, Shanghai, Sao Paolo. Some of the world´s greatest entrepreneurs and early stage investors participate as jury members, past participants include; Jeff Clavier (SoftTechVC), Ali Partovi (Dropbox), and James Tan (QuestVC).

We are co-founders of CityDeal S.L.U., one of the fastest growing company in the Internet space. Our friendship and future partnership started after we studied in the same section. In February 2010, shortly after finishing the IMBA, the Samwer brothers (German serial entrepreneurs) offered us the chance to found the Spanish branch of CityDeal. A few months later, Groupon acquired CityDeal to form the world’s leading social commerce site, offering one great deal, everyday, in more than 170 cities. Holoholo is a mobile application that will allow you to physically follow a storyline through a city by checking in to various locations where you will solve riddles or complete challenges related to the plot to unlock subsequent chapters of the story and earn points. The idea was conceived in the core 'Entrepreneurial Management' course, and later refined in the IE Venture Lab. Right from the start, we implemented what we learnt in class and solicited feedback from classmates, professors, mentors, and industry professionals. The hard work paid off because we came in second in the online category at Venture Day 2012 in Madrid, and were one of the winners in the telecommunications category of EmprendeGo. http://www.holoholo.jasonhum.com/

Founder BiOncotech - Class of 2010
After intense research in various labs in Spain, Germany and the USA, I led a discovery on new molecular strategies to induce a targeted auto-degradation of malignant melanoma cells. Our results received international praise, because melanoma is almost incurable, and effective treatments have been elusive. It was time to translate our data into clinical reality so I joined IE Business School. We have launched BiOncotech, a start-up with international projection that targets melanoma and other (orphan) cancers. Through the Venture Lab, I met investors specialized in biotech and am working with a mentor to further develop our market objectives. Within just a few months, we have attracted public and private funds and are ready to embark on the clinical development of our product. www.bioncotech.com

Founders Respiro - Class of 2008
Respiro Car Sharing was born in the Venture Lab. During our MBA, we became increasingly interested in the commercialization of green technologies as an ingenious way of doing well by doing good. Respiro is the first car-sharing company in the center of Madrid. We offer an all-inclusive, e-based, pay-as-you-go service for 0,15 € per minute. Respiro empowers people to make smart economical and ecological transportation choices, and gives access without ownership, wheels when you want them. We are part of a global phenomenon of transforming modern cities into more sustainable environments.
