IE School of Science and Technology Dean Ikhlaq Sidhu Receives Honorary Doctorate from Lund University in Sweden
The award was granted by the Lund School of Technology.
Ikhlaq Sidhu, Dean of IE School of Science and Technology, received an honorary doctorate from Sweden’s Lund University in a solemn ceremony, that featured cannon fire and Latin.
“I am incredibly grateful for the tremendous privilege of being granted an Honorary Doctorate at Lund University in Sweden,” Sidhu said. “This entire event been a truly amazing experience, and a wonderful opportunity get to know so many new colleagues and strengthen connections with past friends.”
Ikhlaq Sidhu, former Chief Scientist and Faculty Director at the University of California Berkeley’s Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology, is an internationally renowned scientist, entrepreneur, and academic in the areas of Technology and Engineering with 75 patents in internet communication technologies.
The degree conferment ceremony at Lund University includes a cannon salute as a tribute to the doctors. The Wende artillery regiment assists the University by firing two shots for presenters and jubilee doctors, one shot for the honorary doctors and three shots for all the new doctors within a faculty.
Prof. Sidhu created the hugely popular Data-X course and developed dynamic, high profile innovation labs in data, sustainable foods, and blockchain. He has been a driving force behind Berkeley’s innovation programs and ecosystem. Prof. Sidhu developed the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship for developing new ventures and the Berkeley’s Engineering Leadership Programs for technology leaders.
In 2018, Ikhlaq Sidhu was honored with the IEEE Major Education Innovation Award. He received the Berkeley IEOR Emerging Area Professor Award in 2009 and the Berkeley Extraordinary Teaching Award in 2021. In 1999, he received 3Com Corporation’s Inventor of the Year Award.
Prof. Sidhu received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, and his Masters’ Degree and Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University.
IE University held a cocktail reception following Sidhu’s return to celebrate the Lund recognition. At the event, IE University President Santiago Iñiguez congratulated Sidhu in the name of the IE Community.
