Sci-Tech Students Visit Uber and Picnic Headquarters in Amsterdam

Master in Big Data and Analytics students met technology and business leaders during the Global Immersion Week

Students of IE School of Science and Technology took part in Global Immersion Week in one of the main tech hubs in Europe - Amsterdam, Netherlands - and got a chance to network with leaders and recruiters from giants like Nike, Yamaha, Heineken, Tesla, Uber, and others.

This year, Global Immersion Week in Amsterdam hosted master students with different profiles: from young professionals with two or three years of experience to senior masters who have been working in the field for 10 or more years. No matter the circumstances, everyone got an opportunity to meet recruiters, engage with worldwide-known companies, and meet IE alumni.

“For our students, Immersion Week is a mind shifting experience. An inflection point that allows them to recharge as they enter the final term of their programs, powered by the visits to companies, conferences with executives and recruiters, and engagement with the alumni network,” said Guillermo de Haro Rodríguez, academic director of IE graduate programs.

The Global Immersion Week is an opportunity for students to travel abroad and meet business leaders, government officials, and other young professionals from all over the world. By engaging in the occasion, students immerse in another culture and build ties with participants. IE University has organized these events in Dubai, Berlin, San Francisco, and recently, Amsterdam.

During the week in the Netherlands, students from the program Business Analytics and Big Data attended a consulting panel of PwC, KPMG, and BCG, where the companies gave insights about their strategies.

“It was great to understand the market landscape and put into practice what we are studying,” said Salma Elguendy, Master in Business Analytics and Big Data.

At Yamaha, students met with Laura D’Accardi, Digital Marketing & CRM Department Manager Marketing Division an IE alumni from the Executive Master in Digital Transformation & Innovation Leadership. Yamaha welcomed the students again in Amsterdam, where they are launching a Customer Data Center. The students expressed great interest in the company that is pushing its data strategy.

Master students also had the advantage of attending a tour around Picnic, the online supermarket,  headquarters in Amsterdam. Alejandro Sancho, student of Master in Business Analytics and Big Data, highlighted the visit as particularly enlightening.

“I think the Picnic company was the one who left the best impression. During the tour, we were able to see the different departments and get a sense of the work environment, which gave us a deeper understanding of the company's operations,” said Sancho.

Besides learning insights about big players in various industries, GIW also opened opportunities for students to find a new employer among the corporations like Nike, Heineken, Tesla, and others.

“If you are looking forward to getting a job in Amsterdam with a great company, the GIW is the perfect chance,” said Sancho.

Among meetings with companies, students spent time with each other on several networking events. It is important to share experience and opinions with colleagues beyond the academic environment, and GIW is an ideal place and time for that.

“It was very interesting and stimulating to be among this diverse group of colleagues and professionals,” said Elguendy.
