About me

I come from Cairo, Egypt, but have lived in Sudan and the United Arab Emirates my entire life. Because I love traveling and wanted to expand on the knowledge acquired from my bachelor’s degree, I decided to move to Spain to pursue a Master in Finance. In my downtime, I love to do Thai kickboxing—it’s one of my passions. I recently landed a job at McKinsey & Company as a junior associate.

"IE University molded me into an individual that better understands the world, his surroundings and his place in it."

Making a difference through global entrepreneurship

Abdelrahman is a savvy globetrotter, having ties to at least three countries: Egypt, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates. However, when he made the decision to travel to Spain to pursue the Master in Finance, it was his biggest move yet.

Before coming to IE University, Abdelrahman was enrolled at the American University in Dubai where he studied the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After working in the industry for a while, he switched gears and became a consultant for the Surani Group, a family-owned company based in Dubai. His time there offered Abdelrahman his first exposure to many different industries and taught him key problem-solving skills.

An outgoing individual, his passions include Thai kickboxing and traveling. Abdelrahman also loves to connect with diverse people and learn new things. That’s why he chose to study at IE University: it was his first choice due to the university’s reputation for being a highly practical-based and technologically advanced institution. After all, the institution is renowned for its hands-on approach to learning, which gives students a distinct competitive edge in the dynamic job market. His career aspirations had a lot to do with his decision as well.

Eventually, Abdelrahman plans to make a fundamental difference in the economic contribution of his country as an entrepreneur and, hopefully, a business tycoon. In the short term, though, he wants to acquire the necessary skills and experience by advising and working with some of the world’s leading companies. Abdelrahman believes this strategy is the key to helping him achieve his long-term goals. And joining IE University was the first step to obtaining those valuable skills.

Being a part of the IE Community is already making a mark on Abdelrahman’s career. Completing the Master in Finance increased his employability substantially. It allowed him to interview with numerous prestigious firms, eventually leading him to secure an offer from McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm that is known for its highly selective hiring process. Abdelrahman is currently awaiting to start his new role as a junior associate at the company.

When asked if there was any advice he wanted to share with incoming students or those interested in pursuing the Master in Finance program, his answer was concise and straight to the point: “Just go for it and don’t look back.”

For Abdelrahman, his experience at IE University was special and one he remembers fondly. Being here helped him expand his mind on many fronts and created some of his best memories that he is truly fond of. Moreover, he made friendships with people from all over the world—friendships that he is sure will last a lifetime. It also allowed him to meet professors that are highly respected in their professional fields, having the good fortune for them to become his trusted mentors and friends.

All in all, Abdelrahman is convinced that IE University molded him into the person he is today: an individual who better understands the world, his surroundings and his place in it.
