Anastazja Bazus

About me

I’m French and Polish, I was born in Singapore, and I’ve lived in nine different countries, which has given me an international outlook both personally and professionally. My friends describe me as outgoing, reliable and motivated to take on new challenges. You’ve probably seen me around campus promoting Runners Club events or performing in the Master’s Music Band.

I’m interested in international commercial law and the way legal frameworks shape global business and cross-border transactions. I’ve also developed an interest in disputes, broadening my perspective on different paths within international legal practice

How the Legal Immersion Experience cultivates a global mindset

What is the value of a global mindset? It makes you agile and adaptable, important qualities in today’s evolving professional landscape. It accelerates your leadership potential by equipping you with the tools to manage diverse teams and navigate different markets. Most importantly, though, a globally oriented worldview helps you see the bigger picture, boosting your career mobility and unlocking powerful opportunities.

Anastazja Bazus learned these lessons early. Her multicultural, multi-country upbringing prepared her for a career whose impact isn’t limited by borders. Her choice to study a double undergraduate degree in English Law and French Law mirrored her cosmopolitan background. Traveling between London and Paris for four years gave her "a strong foundation" in common law, civil law and the underlying principles of two key legal systems.

She’d always known that she wanted to pursue a master’s degree, and she started working on this critical step right after graduation. "I was looking for a master’s program that would complement my academic background with a strong commercial perspective and a more practical, hands-on approach to legal practice," Anastazja explains.

As soon as she discovered the Master of Laws (LL.M.) Specialization in International Business Law, she knew she’d found a program that checked all the boxes: a unique approach to learning, practical application and well-developed connections to the business world.

For Anastazja, learning from professors who are also renowned legal practitioners has been extremely rewarding. "Their ability to connect theory with real professional experience allows us to understand how the law operates in practice," she says.

Being part of such a diverse cohort has been another plus of the program, exposing her to a range of perspectives that continually enrich discussions and debates. "This prepares us for the realities of working in international legal environments and multicultural teams," she explains.

However, she admits that the most valuable part of her academic journey has been the Legal Immersion Experience, part of the Specialization in International Business Law. She and her cohort spent a week in London taking part in events designed to expose them to different areas of legal practice.

During visits to well-known international law firms like Simmons & Simmons, Skadden, and Squire Patton Boggs, participants got a feel for the realities of commercial legal practice. They also attended workshops where they learned how to design and communicate legal services to make them more accessible to the general public.

The Inns of Court are historic societies dedicated to training barristers and judges across England and Wales. By visiting some of them, including Lincoln’s Inn and Gray’s Inn, as well as leading barristers’ chambers like 3 Verulam Buildings (3VB), participants explored the history of the profession and the roots of legal advocacy.

At King’s College London, they connected with notable academics and legal practitioners, exchanged perspectives on different approaches to law and dove into the growing role of technology and automation in legal practice. The group also attended an event at the House of Lords, where they had a chance to meet several members and examine how law and policy shape societies.

For Anastazja, the Legal Immersion Experience didn’t just enrich her learning; it allowed her to develop stronger bonds with her peers. Plus, "It deepened my understanding of how legal expertise can be combined with technology and design," she says.

The practical focus was critical: hands-on workshops and case studies based on real legal challenges that participating firms had already worked on led students to grasp how they could apply legal reasoning in real-world contexts.

But most importantly? The experience allowed Anastazja to define her career path in real time. As she explains, "Spending time in London, one of the world’s leading legal and financial hubs, reinforced my desire to pursue the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and build my professional path there."

So, how does a global mindset really influence your career? For Anastazja, the answer came into focus during her week in London. Many students in the Master of Laws (LL.M.)

Specialization in International Business Law arrive already shaped by international exposure. But the Legal Immersion Experience sharpens that outlook, turning it into a concrete vision of where they’re headed and how to get there.

For those considering a similar path, her advice is twofold: select complex electives beyond your comfort zone, as they will challenge you to grow the most, and "make the most of everything that happens outside the classroom." By joining a club  and participating in campus events, you’ll start building networks and gain real-world insight. "The IE Community is truly unique, and by getting involved, you’ll quickly start to feel part of something special," she concludes.
