Andrea Gutiérrez Goebel

About me

My name is Andrea Gutiérrez Goebel, and I was born in Bogotá, Colombia. I come from a multicultural family—my father is Colombian-Spanish and my mother is Colombian-German. My family has taught me a lot about the value of humility. They’ve always reminded me that no matter how much you achieve, there is always something new to learn and someone you can learn from. Humility keeps you grounded, open to growth and respectful toward others’ perspectives.

For me, being humble doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself, but recognizing that excellence comes from continuous learning, teamwork and gratitude. It’s the mindset that allows you to keep improving every day, both as a person and as a professional. It’s something I keep in mind during my studies for the Doble Máster de Acceso a la Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.).

Q&A with Andrea

What motivated you to choose the Doble Máster de Acceso a la Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.)?

I chose this program because it combines two things I’m truly passionate about: Spanish law and corporate legal practice. I have always been intrigued by the way law influences how businesses grow and operate, and this program gives me the chance to specialize in that field. What I value most is its balance between academic depth and real-world experience, as well as its international perspective, something that really resonates with my background and future goals in corporate law.

How would you describe your experience so far at IE Law School?

So far, it has been a truly enriching experience, not only because of the program’s academic prestige but also thanks to its strong practical focus. The workshops and projects have given me valuable opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to real and simulated cases, deepening my understanding of the law through a more hands-on approach. I also particularly value the faculty. Many of my professors are distinguished professionals affiliated with leading law firms that I deeply admire. Thanks to their expertise and professional trajectories, they bring relevant case studies to each class, which help inspire me. Equally important has been the connection with my classmates. Since the very beginning, I have felt a genuine sense of collaboration within the group. Working alongside such talented and diverse peers has strengthened not only my technical abilities, but also essential skills such as communication, teamwork and adaptability. These competencies are fundamental for practicing law in an international environment.

Which course has had the greatest impact on you so far?

Corporate Law (Derecho Societario). From the very first class, I felt a genuine interest in understanding how companies function from a legal perspective. The professor played a huge role in that, not only because of their knowledge and experience, but because of how they bring complex topics to life and connect them to real situations. Little by little, I’ve realized how much I enjoy this area of law. Learning about corporate structures, governance and transactions has made me fall in love with everything that corporate law represents: its logic, strategy and strong links to the business world. The course has helped me confirm it’s the professional path I want to follow.
