I’m Annika Montis, a Spanish-Swedish law student with a passion for corporate legal advisory. I was born and raised in Mallorca before moving to Madrid and enrolling at IE University. My international upbringing and multicultural background have shaped me into a polyglot—I speak five languages today. I’d describe myself as a determined, proactive and outgoing person who aspires to apply my legal expertise in a dynamic, global environment. Outside of academics, I enjoy trying new restaurants and staying active through sports.

From dual degree to dual master’s: setting the foundation for a legal career
For Annika Montis, diving into corporate law felt like a natural next step toward her goal to qualify for the Spanish bar exam and officially practise law in Spain. After completing her Dual Degree in Business Administration + Laws, she decided to keep building her expertise through the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas at IE University. Now, she’s on a mission to carve out her place in the legal world by specializing in corporate legal advisory.
Annika’s interest in law started early, but it was through internships and hands-on experience that she truly found her passion. During her undergraduate studies, she discovered a deep interest in transactional law, but an internship in the in-house corporate legal department of an international law firm solidified her decision to specialize in corporate legal advisory. “My internship provided me with first-hand insight into the profession,” she says. Annika found seeing how corporate lawyers work in real life “highly engaging and stimulating.” The fast-paced, challenging environment was exactly what she was looking for.
Beyond technical expertise, Annika chose this dual degree program because of its careful balance between theory and practice. She appreciates that the curriculum integrates essential soft skills such as negotiation, problem-solving and strategic thinking, equipping students to navigate the legal landscape. It’s not just about understanding the law, she explains, but applying it effectively in real-world scenarios. This well-rounded approach—combined with access to a world-class faculty and seasoned legal practitioners—offers a unique blend of academic rigor and hands-on learning.
When asked what makes IE University stand out, Annika highlights its adaptability and forward-thinking methodology. Looking ahead, Annika is eager to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the program to real-world legal challenges.
