Fang Shu
My name is Fang Shu and I’m from China, where I earned my bachelor’s in law and passed my home country’s National Legal Professional Qualification Examination. I’ve also had the privilege of gaining international experience while studying abroad in Italy and now in Spain at IE Law School. My passion lies in the intersection of technology and law, specifically in data regulations and intellectual property. As part of my Master of Laws (LL.M.) program, I’m especially looking forward to the upcoming study visit to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which feels like a key step toward my dream of working with international organizations.
“The CSC Scholarship has not only enriched my academic knowledge and broadened my international perspective but also inspired me to continue dreaming big.”
Building a Future in International Law with the CSC Scholarship
Fang Shu has always been motivated by a strong commitment to bridging the gap between technology and law. With an academic background spanning both China and Europe, she has gained a unique perspective that has driven a passion for addressing complex legal issues in a globalized world.
After earning her law degree in China and passing the National Legal Professional Qualification Examination, Fang Shu sought to broaden her international expertise. She first studied abroad in Italy and later joined IE Law School to pursue a Master of Laws (LL.M.) , specializing in Digital Law and Intellectual Property. This educational journey was made possible by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), which she describes as “a transformative opportunity” that has allowed her to access world-class education and diversity at our institution.
“The CSC Scholarship has not only enriched my academic knowledge but also broadened my international perspective,” she explains. “It’s inspired me to dream bigger and pursue a career with international organizations, equipping me with the skills and confidence needed for this journey.”
She chose the Digital Law and Intellectual Property track to deepen her understanding of global data laws and regulations. The specialization provides students with a diploma certified jointly by IE Law School and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Her interest in this field took root during her undergraduate studies, where she wrote a dissertation on EU Data Law and Global Data Governance. That experience sparked a desire to immerse herself in data law, and she conducted “comprehensive research” that has shaped what she calls a “profound interest in the field.”
IE Law School stood out to Fang for its impactful methodology, international outlook and deep connections with leading sector practitioners. She has been particularly impressed with the balance between theoretical and practical learning. The program features interactive classes, expert professors and an international cohort of peers, fostering an environment where students collaborate on real-world legal issues. “I’ve benefited most from the rich curriculum, which provides both legal knowledge and profound business knowledge,” she shares.
Fang is particularly excited about taking part in the program’s Immersion Week, which includes a study visit to WIPO. This aligns with her long-term goal of working with an international organization to shape the global landscape of technology law and labor law.
Looking ahead, Fang sees herself promoting the unification of laws and advocating for fair regulations on data flow within international organizations or NGOs. She says that IE Law School’s strong ties with global institutions and the support of the CSC Scholarship have given her the tools to make this vision a reality.
