About me

My name is Joaquín González. Since I was a child, law has been present in my life. That’s thanks to my mother, who is a lawyer. I’ve always liked to understand how things work and I firmly believe that law is a discipline that forces you to be connected to the environment and evolve constantly. After studying the Dual Degree in Business Administration & Laws at IE Law School, I decided to continue my training with the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.) at the same institution.

Legal training with a business vision

Joaquín has always known that his professional path would be linked to law. The influence of his mother, herself a lawyer, awakened in him a curiosity that has grown over the years. That led him to study a Dual Degree in Business Administration & Laws at IE University. There he was able to experience firsthand the institution’s practical and dynamic approach, which made up his mind to continue with the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.).

This program offered him something that few other institutions could match: the fusion of a solid legal background with a deep understanding of the business world. "Nowadays, most law firms advise companies," says Joaquín. That’s why, for him, integrating both perspectives seemed essential—to provide realistic, strategic legal solutions adapted to the needs of corporate clients.

One of the aspects that he values most about the program is its practical methodology. Activities such as mock trials in subjects such as Procedural Law or Arbitration have allowed him to become familiar with courtroom dynamics from within the classroom. But the most transformative element, according to Joaquín, has been the Legal Challenge, a final exercise in which students simulate being part of a firm, facing a transversal legal case that requires knowledge in multiple areas of law. This experience, which serves as the master's thesis, tests decision-making under pressure, team collaboration and strategic vision, realistically reflecting day-to-day life in a law firm.

Joaquín also highlights the training in essential skills such as public speaking, negotiation, time management and teamwork. Group work, which continues throughout the semester, mimics the dynamics of real offices, encouraging coordination and cooperation. "The practical preparation is comprehensive from day one," he says.

Another fundamental pillar of his experience has been access to professional opportunities. IE Law School offers multiple networking channels through the IE Talent & Careers department, job fairs and events such as the Link-Up Series. Moreover, the possibility of learning from professors who are active professionals provides a direct and enriching perspective on the legal sector. This creates ties between mentors and mentees that go beyond the classroom.

Looking to the future, Joaquín envisions himself working in procedural law. He aspires to develop in this field to the point where he’s a benchmark, continually seeking personal satisfaction and professional excellence. For him, success isn’t limited to external achievements, but to feeling fulfilled in what he does. The dual degree master’s has helped him define not only his interests, but also the type of law firm he’d like to work in—and the type of professional he wants to be.

To anyone who’s considering studying this program, Joaquín advises them to do so with determination and enthusiasm: "It’s a demanding year, but very stimulating. If you’re looking for a legal education that brings you closer to the reality of a law firm, and that prepares you both technically and personally, this program is the ideal choice." He also encourages people to get involved in all the extracurricular initiatives that IE Law School offers, from Moot Courts and Legal Clinics to the specialized clubs: "The more you get involved, the greater your personal and professional return will be."

With a clear vision, solid practical preparation and a strategic mindset, Joaquín González is positioning himself as a future lawyer with the ability to advise on law, but also from a deep understanding of business logic.
