Júlia Amorim
My name is Júlia Amorim and I am a second-year student in the Dual Degree in Laws + International Relations. I was born and raised in Salvador, Brazil, and for most of my life, I never imagined living anywhere else. That changed when I was 13 and decided I wanted to do an exchange program. At 16, I moved to Southampton, England, for six months. It was an experience that challenged me and opened my eyes to everything the world could offer beyond the bubble I was used to.
When I returned to Brazil, I realized that even though I loved my city and my life, I couldn’t imagine staying and missing out on what else was out there. That was when I began looking for opportunities to study abroad. While researching universities, I discovered IE University and immediately felt it was the right fit for the international experience I was looking for.

Q&A with Júlia
What motivated you to choose the Dual Degree in Laws + International Relations?
My motivation to choose this program stemmed from a long-standing curiosity about the world and how global events shape societies. International relations felt like a natural choice, but I also wanted a degree that offered structure and depth. At IE University, I found the ideal combination.
Law and international relations interconnect in an amazing way. I’m learning two complementary perspectives on the same issues, which has helped me develop a comprehensive understanding of global challenges. This balance has made me feel more prepared for the future, both academically and professionally.
How would you describe the academic experience of a dual degree?
The experience has felt dynamic and well-balanced. Some semesters lean more heavily toward law, and others toward international relations, but they consistently reinforce each other. This approach allows me to understand topics from multiple angles, resulting in deeper learning and stronger critical thinking.
Academically, what about IE University has stood out to you the most?
What stands out most to me is how interconnected the content feels. Topics often overlap across disciplines, encouraging us to think beyond a single framework and develop more nuanced perspectives. This has been reinforced by IE University’s interactive teaching style, which has had a personal impact on my learning.
I’ve always considered myself a shy student. However, the participatory approach used by many professors encourages me to speak up more in class. This shift has helped me develop academically and personally, helping me gain confidence and actively engage in discussions.
What’s it like to study in Segovia, and is the experience different from what you expected?
Day-to-day life has really exceeded my expectations. Studying in Segovia means sharing the same classmates across subjects. I was initially worried because I thought that would limit social interaction. Instead, the opposite happened. Segovia feels like both a town and a campus, and connections form naturally.
The environment is close-knit and welcoming. If there’s someone you don’t know, a friend of yours probably knows them already, so meeting new people is almost inevitable. That’s one of the things I love most about life in Segovia.
How has your diverse cohort influenced your experience in a globally-minded program?
Being surrounded by people from different cultures and backgrounds has deeply influenced how I view global politics, diplomacy and law. Studying in such an international environment has shown me that global issues are rarely seen from a single perspective, and diversity of thought is essential for meaningful dialogue and cooperation.
What impact do you think your dual degree will have on your professional career?
My dual degree is preparing me to be a more complete professional. Having a “double perspective” allows me to approach complex situations with greater depth and understanding. With my dual degree, I’m able to effectively balance legal reasoning with geopolitical awareness.
What advice would you give to anyone considering the program?
Don’t overthink your decision. The program is demanding, but the challenges are what make the experience meaningful. By embracing discomfort and new opportunities, we’re able to grow both academically and personally, discovering perspectives and possibilities we may never have imagined.
