About me

My name is Pablo Sánchez, and I studied the Bilingual Double Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession and Legal Practice + Corporate Legal Advisory (LL.M.). Even before finishing my undergraduate degree, I knew that, in addition to qualifying in Spain, I also wanted to qualify in England and Wales. IE Law School seemed like the ideal environment to achieve this, especially because it offered the opportunity to pursue the dual qualification program with BARBRI.

"Beyond the professional opportunities it may open, training in another jurisdiction gives you a much broader perspective when approaching the problems you’ll encounter in day-to-day practice."

Pablo Sánchez began the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.) with considerable professional experience already behind him. He had completed internships in the legal department of a renewable energy company operating across Europe, as well as at two internationally renowned law firms, and he knew he wanted to develop his career on a global scale. Therefore, enrolling at IE Law School was the logical next step.

Like many other students, he was attracted by the university’s international outlook, the diversity of its student body, and its academic prestige. However, what ultimately convinced him was the opportunity to pursue the dual qualification program with BARBRI. In collaboration with this test preparation organization, IE Law School offers specific training to prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), which allows graduates to practice law in England and Wales.

"I was very clear about the importance of qualifying in another jurisdiction, and I thought the best time to do it was during the master’s program," Pablo explains. "Beyond the professional doors it may open, doing so gives you a much broader perspective when approaching the problems you’ll encounter in day-to-day practice." Although this makes the double master’s more demanding, it has also provided him with new tools to solve complex legal issues.

The difference in level of rigor compared to the undergraduate degree is noticeable, and adjusting takes time, but this also has its advantages. Beyond the theoretical knowledge, the double master’s has prepared him to perform effectively in dynamic environments. "By changing professors and subjects so frequently, I think students greatly improve their ability to adapt," says Pablo, who now works as a Legal Trainee at A&O Shearman.

IE Law School is a university that is closely connected to professional practice and, through a wide range of events, has helped him discover the many career paths within the legal field. The IE Talent & Careers job fairs, online events, and alumni gatherings have been a great way for Pablo to connect "with some of the most relevant law firms in Europe."

In fact, many professors are partners at highly prestigious law firms or general counsels at major companies, which "gives the master’s experience a truly distinctive character." In his opinion, the fact that faculty members have a multijurisdictional perspective means they fully understand the challenges students face and can guide them based on their own professional experience.

For all these reasons, Pablo does not hesitate to recommend the Double Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession and Legal Practice + Corporate Legal Advisory (LL.M.) to anyone seeking a dual qualification. "I think it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that gives you an incredibly broad perspective," he says, noting that it is entirely possible to combine it with the BARBRI program. "There will be moments when you feel like you can’t keep up with everything, but believe me—you end up managing it," he recalls.
