Borja Santos

Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs and professor of practice in Public Policy and International Development

Borja is an expert in public policy and international development and passionate about social impact. Hecurrently works as the Executive Director at IE School of Public and Global Affairs and professor of practice of Public Policy, International Development, Social Entrepreneurship and Project Management. He has over 12 years of professional experience focused on the design, implementation and evaluation of public policies and international programs in countries in Africa, Europe, America and Asia.

He has designed strategies for better economic growth with the Government of Sri Lanka and the Harvard Center for International Development, and carried out impact evaluations in Peru and Belize with international development banks. He has also led institutional humanitarian response and disaster risk management programs of United Nations and the Government of Ethiopia and Ecuador, managed international aid projects at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in different countries, and worked to foster innovation ecosystems in cities like San Sebastian.

He holds a Master in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) from the Harvard Kennedy School (2017), being recipient of the international scholarship from La Caixa Foundation. He also holds a Master in International Relations (2014) and a BEng/MEng in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Valladolid, where he graduated in 2006 with Cum Laude honors in his final thesis. Additionally, he completed professional piano studies at the Professional Music Conservatory of Valladolid in 2003.

He is the President of the Spanish Alumni Network of the Harvard Kennedy School. He collaborates leading the international expansion of IMFAHE, a social international mentorship foundation, and participates as a coach with EuropeLab, an organization that empowers the new generation of civic and political European leaders. He has also published opinion pieces and has been interviewed for publications such as Agenda Pública, El País, Esglobal, El Norte de Castilla, RNW Media, Allafrica or Harvard Kennedy School news.
