Professor Garland is Vice President for Development at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, where he is also a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to this, he was Director of External Relations, Director of International Relations, Vice Dean for Faculty, and Director of the Economics Department. At present he combines his management responsibilities with teaching courses on Managerial Economics, Country Economic Analysis, and Economic Development. In the field of macroeconomics, Prof Garland has conducted research into the economic effects of demographic changes and he is also an expert on financial crises. And with his specialist knowledge of the economics of developing countries such as China, India, Brazil and Mexico, Prof Garland expertise is much in demand, as students look for business education programmes that have an increasingly international flavour. Professor Garland’s research interests include developing countries, financial crises, and the economic effects of aging populations.
