Madrid with an immersion week in Singapore

October 2022

At the IE School of Global and Public Affairs, we believe that the world needs a new class of professionals, capable of working at the intersection of the public and private sectors; and prepared to harness the power of technology to improve governance and society. With the IE Center for the Governance of Change and the IE PublicTech Lab present on campus, the School is a hub of applied research, consultancy and public policy examination—which directly influences the design and implementation of the MPA.

Across the private and public sectors, professionals with the ability to create innovative solutions are in high demand. Public innovators — acting within either a public, private, or non-profit organization — are in a prime position for social impact, while also contributing to collaboration and understanding across traditional sectoral divides. By uniting players from technology, public policy, business, and global affairs, we seek to educate individuals capable of succeeding in this fast-changing and interconnected world.

Leadership at the Intersection of the Public and Private Sectors

As the gap between the public and private sectors becomes increasingly narrow, there are as many opportunities for MPA graduates in private companies and non-profits as there are in public sector organizations. By exploring the points at which the traditional sectors meet and collaborate, students gain a robust understanding of the distinct nature of both sectors from a global perspective. In turn, this makes them uniquely qualified for the new types of professional positions that are emerging in our increasingly interconnected world.

An Applied Methodology for Public Problem-Solving

The Master in Public Administration study plan is designed to bring students into direct contact with the public policy-making process. We encourage MPA program participants to analyze problems and discover optimal solutions, combining strategic thinking with hands-on exploration of specific policy areas. By building in direct experience with all phases of the public-policy process — problem definition, policy design, and project implementation/evaluation — the Master in Public Administration ignites your professional potential and puts you in the sights of a broad spectrum of recruiters and employers.

Public Administration in the Digital Era

Both businesses and public organizations are in need of tech-savvy professionals able to find innovative solutions to the problems facing our world. Throughout the program, class content is actively applied to today’s digital context, exploring the latest uses of data and technology in the public sector, as well as the public sector’s role in fomenting innovation. With this technological focus, public innovators — even when working from within a private company, think-tank, consultancy, or non-profit — are better able to design solutions, implement change, and create a positive influence in people’s lives.

Unique Eco-System

The MPA is designed and run in collaboration with the IE Center for the Governance of Change and the IE Public-Tech Lab, innovative research centers operating at the cutting edge of the interface between technology and public policy. As well, at the School of Global and Public Affairs our extensive network of global partnerships and collaborators, from across the public and private sectors, leads to a rich campus culture of speakers, conferences, events, and networking and career opportunities. Finally, the immersion week provides an eye-opening introduction to new contacts, networks, and strategies for public administration.
