Driven, adaptable and visionary: a recipe for success

Fiorella Lucia Tracanelli’s international background and purposeful approach to life make her a perfect fit for IE University. A motivated learner, she consistently seeks out challenges. Her multicultural perspective helps her navigate uncertainty and adapt to change—essential skills in the world of international development.

Constantly thinking about how entrepreneurship and innovation can be leveraged for long-term, sustainable development, Fiorella is motivated by a deep interest in better understanding how the private sector can play a more meaningful role. This thought process is what eventually led her to IE University’s Master in International Development.

Before joining the IE Community, Fiorella studied international relations in Miami, Florida. Following her degree, she started working in the marketing and communications department of a tech company. Here, she developed strong skills in strategic communication, digital engagement, and project coordination and development.

Fiorella says that her work experience exposed her to the power of technology and innovation in driving change. This, in turn, deepened her interest in applying these tools to global development. She found herself looking for the next step in her career, hoping to build a strong foundation in development economics, sustainability and policy analysis.

She found that next step at IE University. Fiorella chose IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs for its renewed faculty members and its practical, interdisciplinary approach. The university’s combination of strong academic foundations with real-world exposure helped her look at innovation and sustainability in a new light. Plus, the institution’s collaborations with international organizations offered the ideal environment to explore how business, policy and development can work together to create a lasting impact.

The most valuable part of Fiorella’s IE Experience has been the opportunity to learn and grow within a truly diverse and collaborative environment. "Working alongside classmates from all over the world, each with unique professional and academic backgrounds and perspectives, has challenged me to think more critically and be able to learn from different points of view," she explains.

From case studies and team projects to the Venture Lab, Fiorella has been able to put theory into practice and explore innovative approaches to development. “This hands-on, interdisciplinary learning environment has enriched both my academic and personal growth in meaningful ways that I will always be grateful for.”

Throughout her journey, Fiorella has been able to clarify how she wants to contribute to development. The program reinforced her interest in the role of the private sector and international cooperation in driving sustainable impact. "The Master in International Development has equipped me with the analytical and strategic tools to work at the intersection of policy, innovation and global development," Fiorella explains.

As for the future, Fiorella sees herself working in a purpose-driven organization, most likely in the private sector. "I want to be part of the efforts that drive scalable, inclusive solutions to global challenges, and the Master in International Development is helping me build the multidisciplinary knowledge and practical skills to get there."

The heart of her experience at IE University has been the vibrant, diverse and extremely supportive community. "I’ve found a network that encourages collaboration, shared purpose and growth. It’s about being surrounded by people equally passionate about making a difference that has deeply enriched my personal and professional development," she reflects.

Fiorella would tell anyone interested in the program to come in with curiosity and purpose. "The real magic happens when you actively engage. Be open to learning from your processors and peers." For Fiorella, innovation starts where you let go of the fear of combining your interests.
