Nicole Acorda
I’m Nicole Acorda and I’m originally from Peru. Growing up, I was always exposed to other cultures and languages. I have a deep interest in politics and multiculturalism, which fueled my understanding of worldwide issues and driving positive change. Currently, I am pursuing my passion for creating a global impact through the Master in International Relations at IE University.
"This master’s helps shape your goals and aspirations while pushing you to create a path in the field you’re passionate about."
Empowering change through international relations
Nicole Acorda’s story began in the coastal South American city of Lima, but a passion for politics and multiculturalism shaped her interest in international relations beyond the borders of her native Peru. Having first studied international relations in her homeland, she is now taking the next step in her career by actively engaging in the real-time challenges faced by the world.
Beyond international relations, Nicole is also passionate about music and has been singing for as long as she can remember. As a self-described "Lima girl," she was raised going to the beach every summer and has developed a lifelong, respectful connection with the ocean and beach environment.
Her desire to make a global impact led her to choose the Master in International Relations at IE University, a program she describes as full of colleagues and mentors who share her vision of creating positive change. Despite international relations being relatively unknown as a career field in Peru when she started, Nicole stayed true to her aspirations and completed her bachelor’s degree before expanding her horizons.
Before joining IE University’s master’s program, Nicole already had a strong foundation in global affairs, diplomacy and human rights, with hands-on field experience and academic knowledge. Starting her career at just 17 years old, she has contributed to high-level diplomatic events and worked in governmental and international settings. Through this master’s program, she aims to enhance her skills in global negotiations, diplomatic communications, risk management and sustainability to further develop her career opportunities within international or multinational organizations.
The multicultural atmosphere at IE University immediately became one of the most valuable aspects of Nicole’s experience, and the activities and events organized by the IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs have strengthened her sense of belonging and provided invaluable networking opportunities. "Being surrounded by professors and classmates who share the same vision has been invaluable," she notes, making her feel supported in both her academic and professional endeavors.
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Nicole says the program has helped shape her goals while helping her to carve her own path. Looking ahead, she envisions herself as an agent of change and aims to inspire others to choose international relations as a career path, emphasizing that "despite being very challenging, it’s a very rewarding one." Nicole is determined to continue working in international environments, making her mark while exploring the world.
Nicole’s advice to prospective students is to fully embrace the opportunity. She believes the Master in International Relations at IE University will not only make students better professionals but also better people by developing key skills such as public speaking and leadership. When asked to describe her IE University journey in one word, Nicole chooses "wholesome," explaining that "since day one, IE University has welcomed me with open arms, challenging me to take the best out of me, making unforgettable experiences and connecting with people that have the same values and life experiences."
