Ángel Alonso Arroba appointed as new Vice Dean of IE School of Global and Public Affairs

IE University is pleased to announce the appointment of Ángel Alonso Arroba as new Vice Dean for Management and Development of the School of Global and Public Affairs. In his new position, he will promote an ambitious agenda aimed at advancing the international profile of the School, enhancing its programs and activities and designing and implementing its future strategy. He replaces Jaime de Aguinaga, who recently assumed the duties of Vice Provost for Strategy and Development at the newly created Provost Office.

Alonso Arroba arrives to IE University with a distinguished career in international affairs. Most recently, he was Ambassador-at-large for Spanish Global Citizenry at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, developing networks of Spanish professionals abroad. During his tenure at the Ministry, he was a member of the Prime Minister’s Covid19 task force during the first wave of the pandemic and played a key role in the drafting of Spain’s Foreign Policy Strategy 2021-2024.

Alonso Arroba worked for more than thirteen years at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in Paris, where he held several senior positions, including Head of Management and Communications and senior advisor to the Secretary-General. He started his professional career in Washington DC, working for the World Bank Group and the Democracy Coalition Project, an initiative of the Open Society Institute. He has been a professor of international affairs at SciencesPo Paris, in addition to IE University, and has consulted for several non-for-profits.

Alonso Arroba holds an MA in International Security Studies from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, conducted postgraduate studies in International Relations and Political Science in Madrid, and holds two Bachelor Degrees in Social Anthropology and Journalism from University of Sevilla. He is also a graduate of the United World Colleges.

The IE School of Global and Public Affairs hosts more than 1,100 students from over 70 countries, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in international relations, economics and development. With a faculty of more than 150 professors, the School offers students a privileged setting to explore and discuss today´s global challenges, equipping them with the skills to make a difference and pursuit successful careers in the field.

In addition, the IE School of Global and Public Affairs is a full member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), and the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). Its wide portfolio in applied research and outreach includes observatories on Latin America, EU, US and Canada, a Transatlantic Relations Initiative with Harvard’s Kennedy School, a PublicTech Lab, and the Center for the Governance of Change.
