IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs celebrates its United Nations Week: masterclasses, events, a career fair, and mentoring opportunities for students
Students will gain first-hand insights from high-level United Nations professionals.
From January 27th to 31st, IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC), will host the United Nations Week, a unique initiative that brings together experts and professionals from United Nations agencies worldwide to participate in numerous activities at IE University.
Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to engage in masterclasses, lectures, a career fair focused on multilateral organizations, and a mentoring program with high-level United Nations practitioners. These activities aim to provide students with a deeper understanding of international relations, diplomacy and global affairs while complementing their academic studies with practical expertise.
"The UN Week symbolizes the strong partnership between the School and the UNSSC. This collaboration not only enables us to create an exceptional learning environment and an innovative student experience, but also prepares our students for successful professional careers."
Borja Santos, Vice Dean at IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs
“The skills they develop and the networks they build during this experience are invaluable for pursuing opportunities within international organizations”, highlighted Borja Santos, Vice Dean at IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs.
A key highlight of the week will be the launch of the first meeting of the Mentorship Program called “IE-UNSSC E-Buddy Initiative” with UN young professionals . Our selected students will meet United Nations emerging leaders from the UN System. This initiative connects students with young professionals from the United Nations, offering personalized and individual guidance, and career development opportunities.
"The ongoing partnership between UNSSC and IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs highlights mutually shared goals amongst our collaborative efforts during the UN Week. Initiatives such as the co-designed Executive Master in International Development and the Master in International Development seamlessly integrate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the UN Secretary General’s ‘Our Common Agenda’ with its Quintet of Change into their curricula. Since 2019, this partnership has consistently met the wider UN system's demands, which is crucial in times when advancing multilateralism through learning and knowledge sharing is of the utmost importance."
Simona Costanzo Sow, Chief of Academic Partnerships at the United Nations System Staff College
Participants will also have the opportunity to meet global recruiters from some of the most prominent Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs) worldwide. Organized once again by the IE University Talent and Careers team, the Intergovernmental Organizations Day is a networking event that brings together representatives from the UNSSC, the European Central Bank (ECB), the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), NATO, UNICEF, among others. This career fair allows students to connect and explore career opportunities in multilateral organizations, empowering them to make a global impact.
Additionally, students who participated in last year’s UNSSC Summer Research Program will present their research findings under the title 'Lessons Learned and Good Practices: Stakeholders’ Role and Engagement in Achieving SDGs' to officials from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This report analysed the progress of all countries that presented their SDG Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) in 2023, highlighting key lessons learned across various dimensions.
The week will also feature a series of engaging workshops designed to develop key skills for driving global impact and tackling global challenges. Ten dynamic sessions will be offered in our Campuses of Madrid and Segovia, covering topics such as an introductionto the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), conscious negotiation techniques, systems thinking for solving complex problems, and change management strategies. Participants will also gain practical insights into project management and learn how to build and sustain effective multistakeholder partnerships.
