How to prepare the next generation to lead the world? APSIA deans explain it

The Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) annual deans’ meeting took place from April 21-23 in Spain. The first face-to-face deans/directors meeting since 2020 was hosted by IE University School of Global and Public Affairs in Madrid.

Twenty-two representatives from 20 APSIA institutions met discussed the future of international relations and the challenges our world is facing, as well as how the world of academia should adapt to prepare the next generation of global leaders. Six institutions participated virtually.

James Steinberg, Dean of Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies, Clarissa Slotterback, dean of the Graduate School of Public & International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh, Fritz Mayer, Dean of the University of Denver Josef Korbel School of International Studies, Caroline Freund, Dean of the University of California San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy, and Cornelia Woll, President of the Hertie School, share in this video their insights on some of the key issues. What does it mean being an APSIA member? How is the international order changing at the moment? How is the career of international relations evolving? What disciplines or delivery mechanisms outside the traditional domains of International Affairs are students and employers demanding?
