Yury Fedotov
Yury Fedotov is from Russia and currently working at McKinsey & Company in the Moscow office. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance in Russia in 2019 and graduated from IE’s Master in Computer Science & Business Technology in 2020.

Define your experience in Master in Computer Science & Business Technology in one word.

In what ways do you think the program has changed your life professionally and personally?
Professionally, it prepared me for future careers in any area of tech. It gave me a well-rounded big picture of how the digital world works and taught me to quickly grasp any details that I need. Personally, it was extremely valuable for me to work with people with diverse backgrounds and from different nationalities. It helped me to better understand myself and to become more agile and supportive.
What was your favorite memory of your experience?
Probably the graduation event. Even though it was online, it made me reflect on the long way which my classmates and I walked through. It’s been an exciting and challenging journey for all of us and very beneficial for our future.
Why did you choose to study this program at IE?
I got a degree in finance before joining IE, but felt a great need in being able to continue my career in tech. The computer science degree sounded like a great option, because it had very little in common with my previous background and opened many doors for my future career.
What were some of the main challenges that you encountered on your way? How did your master program and IE help you through these challenges?
The greatest challenge was to find a job during this unusual period of global lockdowns and overall economic decline. IE helped me a lot to find my dream job. First, my program made me more of a valuable specialist, and second, I had countless opportunities to practice interview skills and prepare for technical questions and cases, which are crucial in getting in to McKinsey.
What is networking like in the Master in Computer Science & Business Technology?
The role of IE in providing an amazing network is that it has built a brand which attracts the best talent from all over the world. I made a few great friends during my studies and more importantly, we are staying in touch and empowering each other for further growth.
