Antonio García Romero

Antonio is a full-time Assistant Professor in the Area of Operations and Business Analytics, and Academic Director of the program AI-Powered Healthcare: Disrupting Healthcare with Generative AI at IE Business School. He is also affiliated with the Meta-Research Innovation Center (METRICS) at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Antonio holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, an MSc in Applied Economics from Universidad Carlos III, and a BSc in Theoretical Physics from Universidad de Granada.

Throughout his career, Antonio has been involved in academic activities, advisory roles in public administration, and consulting. Before joining IE Business School, he spent ten years in the healthcare sector, where he served as Head of Innovation Policy in the Madrid Healthcare system. In this role, he led projects focused on developing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure hospital innovation, assessing the societal returns of medical research, and improving the health-related startup ecosystem in the region.

Recognized as an expert in healthcare innovation, Antonio has contributed to several impactful projects. He designed the KPI system for the Spanish Health Technologies Network (ITEMAS). He spearheaded a project to improve the efficiency of surgical facilities in a group of private hospitals in Spain. In 2022, he received the E-Innova Prize in Health Care for his work in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.

Currently, Antonio teaches the "Disrupting Healthcare" elective course in the IMBA and MIM programs, which is part of a broader initiative to enhance healthcare through innovative solutions, including AI tools. This project involves international collaboration with the Stevens Institute of Technology (USA) to optimize pay-for-performance mechanisms under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare).

Additionally, Antonio serves as a board member of Vulpix, a MedTech startup.
