Max Heilingbrunner
I’d describe myself as open-minded, proactive and collaborative. Being open-minded has allowed me to learn from people with different backgrounds at IE University and challenge my own assumptions. Proactive because I naturally take the initiative and contribute beyond formal requirements, as I’ve done with the IE Golf Club. Meanwhile, collaboration has been central to my experience: working with peers from around the world has strengthened my communication skills and broadened my outlook.
"The Dual Degree has provided me with a multidisciplinary foundation that enables me to adapt to diverse industries and challenges."
Q&A with Max
What motivated you to pursue a dual master’s at IE University?
I wanted to combine technological knowledge with business understanding to translate between both worlds effectively. I’ve always been fascinated by the opportunities created by technology and the transformative impact it can have on industries and society. IE University’s highly international environment and leading reputation offered a unique opportunity to develop an interdisciplinary perspective in a diverse, intellectually stimulating setting.
Before enrolling in this program, my background was primarily in management, complemented by several internships at organizations ranging from scale-ups to large corporations. These allowed me to develop strong analytical, organizational and business-oriented skills.
However, I realized that I wanted to strengthen two key areas: my international network and my technical capabilities. I particularly aimed to develop a stronger understanding of technology and AI, not only conceptually but also practically. This program imparted AI-related skills that I now apply directly in my professional role.
What was the most valuable part of your IE Experience?
IE University brings together diverse students and professors in an intellectually stimulating, enriching environment. My relationships with classmates, professors and friends have had a lasting impact on my personal and professional development.
Additionally, living in Madrid further enhanced the experience, offering constant exposure to new perspectives, cultures and opportunities.
How has the program helped shape your professional path?
It has broadened my understanding of the range of career opportunities available, from consulting to roles within large technology-driven organizations. Exposure to different disciplines, projects and perspectives allowed me to assess where my strengths and interests align.
Equally, the experience helped me clarify what kind of work and environments resonate most with me. This has been instrumental in shaping a more defined, intentional direction for my professional path.
Where do you see yourself professionally in five years?
I’m open to different paths; I believe careers evolve through both planning and unexpected opportunities. My ambition is leadership, whether in a startup or a larger, corporate environment.
The program provided me with multidisciplinary adaptability for diverse industries and challenges. It strengthened my analytical, strategic and technical thinking, essential for leading teams and navigating complex business and technology contexts.
What advice would you give to someone considering this program?
You truly get out of the experience what you’re willing to invest. The program requires commitment, curiosity and resilience, but the rewards are equally significant. For me, it was an incredibly valuable and enriching journey, both academically and personally. It was, without doubt, one of the most memorable and defining periods of my life.
If you could sum up your IE University journey in one word or phrase, what would it be?
