Alicia Salinas

About me

My name is Alicia Salinas. I would describe myself as direct, curious and observant. Originally from Mexico, I came to Spain after completing my undergraduate degree at la Facultad Libre de Derecho in Monterrey, Mexico. Before deciding to continue my studies at IE University, I worked a variety of jobs within the field of law including two internships and a job at a firm that dealt with corporate law and real estate. These professional experiences and the enriching connections that I made from them inspired me to continue my studies as a lawyer. When I am not furthering my studies, I like to use my free time to read or spend time with the friends I’ve met at IE University. In my time here, I’ve found a community of classmates who I enjoy getting to know. I hope I can make more memories with them in the future!

"The professors encourage us to participate, and that's when we can observe differences in requirements from one country to another."

Dynamic law in a close-knit community

Alicia Díaz - Student Story | IE Law School

From public notary, through compliance to national and international regulations, Alicia has a variety of experience in many legal fields. But it was a rewarding job in corporate law and real estate arbitration that brought her to study at IE University, along with a fierce desire to learn more and better prepare herself to work within the field.

That’s why Alicia has greatly valued one aspect of her experience in the Master of Laws (LL.M.): the opportunity to participate in mock trials and events such as the Immersion Week. She feels that her experiences in the program have made her more confident, as well as a better lawyer.

Alicia has found a program, and a community at IE University, that reflect her desire to broaden her perspective of the world. An avid reader in all subjects, not just those related to law, she believes that it’s important to read about many topics and explore different points of view in order to be a well-educated member of society. She loves learning about law through the lens of her fellow classmates, who represent countries from all around the world, and relishes that the Master of Laws (LL.M.) imparts an understanding of law not just from a legal point of view, but from a business and financial understanding as well.

Coming to IE University as a graduate student, Alicia was surprised to find that the teaching style is very personal and student-focused. She loves that students are encouraged to work together in class activities, which then helps to establish friendships outside of class. Alicia and her classmates often book a study room together and study for a few hours before relaxing on the weekend. She finds that students are encouraged to be proactive in their studies and as individuals.

Looking to the future, Alicia says that she is open to staying in Madrid or returning to Mexico. It all depends on what opportunities come her way and where they take her! One thing she is sure of is that her time at IE University has taught her how to sell herself as a competent lawyer, thanks to the workshops and help provided by IE Talent and Careers.

Asked if she had advice to offer prospective students, Alicia would say that being a hard worker is only part of what makes someone an ideal candidate to study at IE university. You also must be open to working with others. Students willing to work as a team and capitalize on the benefits of working with their fellow classmates will thrive at IE University just as she is.
