Julieta Malmierca

Julieta Malmierca’s journey started in Uruguay, but has led her all over the globe. Having studied political science and international relations, Julieta is now embracing the next step in her career by diving into the world of international law. Her passion for global issues and legal frameworks led her to choose the Master in International Legal Studies (LL.M.) at IE University, a program she describes as the perfect mix of legal expertise and international perspectives. Julieta's goal is to deepen her knowledge of international law while broadening her mindset and making an impact in the field.

Julieta was drawn to the Human Rights in the Digital Society specialization because of its relevance in today’s fast-changing global landscape. This focus, combined with her interest in economic law, provides Julieta with the knowledge and tools to achieve her long-term goal of working for an international organization. 

The program began to leave a strong impression on Julieta starting on day one. She has already participated in engaging forums on business and human rights, and is eagerly anticipating a visit to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris—an experience she sees as a hands-on opportunity to connect with real-world legal practices. For Julieta, these practical components are among the highlights of the program, giving her a deeper understanding of how her studies align with professional opportunities.

Outside of the classroom, Julieta loves the dynamic student community at IE University. She values the opportunity to connect with peers from a range of backgrounds, nationalities and perspectives. She also appreciates that her program shares a lot of classes with the Master of Laws (LL.M.), resulting in an even more vibrant community.

Julieta believes the Master in International Legal Studies (LL.M.) is an invaluable stepping stone for anyone looking to advance their legal career. The program not only opens students’ minds to the diverse challenges and complexities of global law, but also opens doors to work opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

As a woman pursuing a career in international law, Julieta recognizes the challenges of balancing professional ambitions with personal commitments, especially in roles that require travel. However, she feels empowered by the opportunities presented by IE University to connect with inspiring professionals who demonstrate what it means to be a successful woman in the legal field. These role models have reinforced her belief that gender should never be a barrier to achieving goals. 

Looking ahead, Julieta plans to take part in the program’s exchange opportunities. Her ambition is to work for an international organization or return to Uruguay, contributing her skills and knowledge to meaningful causes on a global or local scale. Julieta’s advice to anyone thinking about studying this program is to go for it. She highlights the opportunities to broaden perspectives, deepen cultural understanding and open doors to the many professional opportunities in international law.
