Virág Anna Vas

About me

My name is Virág Anna Vas. I was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, and I’m currently a third-year Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) student at IE Law School. Next year, I’ll be pursuing an MSc in Law and Professional Practice at King’s College London, through the IE University-King’s College London partnership program .

I’ve always been deeply interested in the humanities. I was drawn to subjects that explored society, ethics and human behavior, which naturally led me to law. I chose to study law because it not only opens a wide range of professional doors, but also teaches you how to think critically, construct persuasive arguments and advocate effectively. My long-term aspiration is to qualify as a solicitor in the UK.

Q&A with Virág Anna Vas

Virág Anna Vas is a woman with a clear vision of her ideal professional future, and she’s taking advantage of the opportunities available to IE Law School students to make that vision a reality. Currently, she’s in the third year of her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in Madrid, and thanks to the institution’s partnership program with King’s College London, she’ll only need one more year of study to secure both her LL.B. and her MSc in a total of just four years. Her reasons for choosing the program were clear from the outset: Virág cites its multi-jurisdictional approach to legal education, which she believes fosters deeper critical thinking and greater adaptability in young legal professionals. She also references the quality of the faculty, appreciating that many of her professors are experienced legal professionals who are passing on their insights into the realities of legal practice, not just a theoretical understanding of law.

Certainly, the program’s rigorous academic standards put students’ analytical and problem-solving skills to the test, with a particular emphasis on critical thinking and practical application of the principles she and her peers study in the classroom. For Virág, this has been a great help in developing strong argumentation and writing skills.

The institution’s extremely wide range of internship opportunities, competitions and other extracurricular activities has helped Virág build a strong professional and academic profile already. Indeed, she has firsthand experience of how IE University celebrates and encourages outstanding academic performance through the Honours Program. She has had plenty of additional support from the stream of information and guidance on both professional and postgraduate opportunities available to all IE University students, too.

And she’s taken full advantage of one of those opportunities. Leveraging the confidence born out of the strong foundational skills and knowledge she’s already built, and the advice and encouragement of IE Law School, Virág will undertake graduate study at King’s College London: Next year, she begins an MSc in Law and Professional Practice at our prestigious partner institution. For Virág, the combination of IE Law School’s international legal education and a master’s from King’s will have a significant impact on her future career prospects. “My bachelor’s has provided me with an international and multi-jurisdictional approach to law, while King’s College London, a prestigious institution with a strong legal tradition, will provide me with in-depth knowledge of UK law. The combination of these two legal educations will place me as a well-rounded candidate in the legal profession,” she tells us.

Instrumental in helping her secure the place was her participation in the IE Legal Clinic in two consecutive years. This highly practical initiative exposes students to the realities of legal practice, tasking them with working on real cases. In Virág’s case, it was a chance to enhance her legal research skills, teamworking ability and legal writing standards. She prepared reports and worked collaboratively on pro bono cases, developing professionally as well as academically and helping to secure her spot at King’s.

Virág has been busy outside the classroom, too. As well as her role as co-president of the IE Hungarian Club, she served as board member and events officer at the IE European Union Club. This was a chance to expand her interests beyond law, and channel her creative talents into organizing events. This too, though, was a learning experience, one in which Virág further boosted her leadership, organizational and communication skills.

Overall, her IE Experience has sharpened her focus on where she sees her future career. “Studying at IE Law School has solidified my desire to pursue a career in law and confirmed that I want to become a solicitor in the UK. Having professors who are experienced, real-world professionals is very inspiring. Although I’m not yet sure which specific field of law I want to specialize in, I am certain that I want to become a solicitor in the UK,” she says.

Virág is in no doubt she’s chosen the right path, and encourages others who are considering a legal career to do the same, because her degree has been about so much more than legal theory: “IE University really emphasizes developing soft skills and provides students with countless networking opportunities to connect with professionals from law firms and top-tier institutions. Moreover, the institution has great partnership and exchange programs with amazing universities, which students should definitely take advantage of,” she concludes.

We wish Virág all the best at King’s and will follow her career with great interest.
