Building the future of law together: IE Law School Annual Faculty Gathering

On January 22, IE Law School held its Annual Faculty Gathering at the Aula Magna of IE University’s María de Molina campus, bringing together its faculty community to reflect on the present and future of the School’s academic project. 

The meeting opened with remarks by Manuel Muñiz, Rector of IE University, who outlined an ambitious research roadmap for the years ahead. He emphasized the central role of faculty and research in shaping the future of IE University, underlining a strong institutional commitment to academic excellence, growth, and impact. In a context of profound change and uncertainty, he highlighted the strategic role of law, which he defined as "the physics of the social sciences," in addressing major global challenges such as artificial intelligence, global governance, and climate law. 

Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE Law School, presented the School’s new brand identity, reflecting its ambition to grow in relevance and impact through a globally oriented understanding of law, a strong commitment to collaboration and innovation, and a clear focus on educating talented professionals capable of transforming their societies. She also reaffirmed the responsibility of law schools and legal academics to defend and promote the rule of law in today’s geopolitical context. 

The session also included updates on faculty development presented by Fernando Pastor, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, an overview of program evolution and recent achievements by Eugenia Castrillón, Vice Dean of Programs, and a forward-looking reflection on the AI & the Law Initiative by Carmen Pérez-Llorca, Vice Dean for Strategic Initiatives. This intervention highlighted IE Law School’s responsible and equitable approach to integrating artificial intelligence into legal education, including the recent agreement to provide students and faculty with full access to the Harvey generative AI platform as part of both teaching and research activities.
