Our LLM and Bachelor students concluded the month of January with an interesting conference held by Dr. Andrade, Privacy and Public Policy Manager for Facebook, who shared his thoughts on privacy, technology, law and Artificial Intelligence and what it takes to pursue a career in AI policy.

At the conference, the expert covered different topics of interest, ranging from the professional future of students interested in developing a career in AI policy to the essence of law and technology and his role as Privacy and Public Policy Manager at Facebook.

One of the main topics discussed during the conference was the importance of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Research on Facebook, technologies that are gaining traction due to the growing and extensive data availability, greater computational power and further emphasis on the policy-making side, emphasized Dr. Andrade, who further explained how the “tech-giant” seeks to understand and develop systems with human-level intelligence by advancing the longer-term academic problems surrounding AI.

Additionally, the expert explained how Facebook provides educational tools to explain the functioning of AI to the user and how the company publics and communicates any changes made in their algorithms.

What you should know about a career in AI Policy

Students interested in pursuing a career in AI policy where eager to get some inside tips on how to develop a career in the sector. Dr. Andrade explained that there are various roles for professionals interested in AI policy; from working in governments and industries -in order to negotiate and implement solutions- to product consulting, which consists of creating new products and defining a policy strategy.

In this context, Norberto Andrade highlighted how a career in AI Policy offers a unique opportunity for students looking to create and develop a career with impact.

A career in AI Policy includes answering questions that will shape the way we live, providing future professionals a unique opportunity to build a meaningful career.

To conclude his interesting intervention, Dr. Andrade recommended students to visit the website 80,000 hours, a site that shares tips and advice on how to create a positive impact and shape a fulfilling career. The site also provides a complete guide for working with AI, strategy and policy.
