IE Law School students share their academic experience at NYU School of Law

Students of the Master in Global Taxation and the Master in Global Corporate Compliance share their journey during the NYU Global Experience Module, an innovative academic experience offered in both master programs at NYU's Greenwich Village campus in Manhattan, New York.

The Institute for Executive Education at New York University School of Law (NYU Law) and IE Law School have developed innovative programs for IE Law students who are pursuing IE Law’s Master in Global Taxation (LLM) and Master in Global Corporate Compliance degrees.  Each program, called a Global Experience Module, integrates short-term intensive training by NYU Law faculty into IE Law’s degree programs. Expert tax and compliance faculty from NYU Law will lead their respective program tracks across two week-long engagements in both Madrid and New York. Keep reading and find out what our students have to say about this enriching academic experience where they gained an international and US-focused perspective on key transactions in complex and rapidly evolving areas of tax and were introduced to the corporate form in the US.

Sofia Pinto Ribeiro, alumni of the Master in Global Taxation and winner of the IE-EY Tax Challenge. Sofía is currently working as a Junior Transfer Pricing Consultant at Deloitte:

"My year at IE has been a great academic journey. One of the highest points of this journey has definitely been the time in NYC. Our class had the unique opportunity of being a part of NYU School of Law for a week learning the essentials of US International Taxation (Inbound and Outbound) and being exposed to a completely different tax system and unfamiliar teaching styles from the American University, regarded as one of the most prestigious and selective law schools in the world. This experience has given me a distinctive perspective, competitive advantage and unprecedented experience to talk about in my job interviews.

The International Tax World is evolving at a rapid pace and having the opportunity to study extremely complex aspects of the US Tax Reform and being taught by NYU scholars was certainly a privilege. Some of the aspects covered were Inbound & Outbound taxation, Subpart F and dividend tax credits, specialties of US treaties (LOB and others), CFC regulations and other anti-avoidance, among other topics. Before this academic experience in NYU, the words GILTI, BEAT or Subpart F, were a nightmare, today they are associated with fun and happy thoughts. I consider this experience will help me face the challenges of starting a career as a Junior Tax practitioner in a couple of months.

And…of course, we stayed one week in New York City enjoying the great things the city has to offer. I loved it. We had the chance to try out baseball and watch an important match between the NYC Yankees and Boston Red Sox... and I got addicted to peanut butter M&M´s".

Pilar Fernandez de Juan, alumni of the Master in Global Taxation. Pilar is working as a tax associate at PwC:

"The Global Experience module at NYU School of Law offered us a perfect opportunity to be part of one of the top taxation universities in the world and best campus life ever experienced. The experience was enriching and intense. We learned the basics of the tax reform recently passed in the US Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. We had the opportunity to attend social events, meet people from different backgrounds and countries and engage in networking activities. I couldn't be happier with this experience, thanks NYU and thanks IE"

Eduardo Espinosa is a current student of the Master in Global Corporate Compliance (part-time) and Tax Manager at GD Legal:

“As part of our Master in Global Corporate Compliance, the week in NYU was challenging and rewarding in all sense, not only from the academic perspective, as we were part of one of the most renowned law schools in the U.S. but also living a global and complete experience that opens your mind to different points of view while spreading your knowledge with a practical approach"
