IE Tower’s Opening Ceremony underscored global challenges and the shifting role of lawyers in today’s world.

IE Law School inaugurated its graduate programs—including the Doble Máster en Abogacía, Procura & LL.M., the Master of Laws (LL.M.), and the LL.M. in International Legal Studies—at the IE Tower Auditorium.

Eugenia Castrillón, Vice Dean of Programs at IE Law School, welcomed students with a reflection on the institution’s comparative and global approach to legal education: "At IE Law School, we don’t believe that learning a single legal system is enough. Today, everything is interconnected. That is why we teach law through a comparative lens. You will come to see law not as a static set of national rules, but as a living structure that shapes global interaction."

Fernando Pastor, Vice Dean of Faculty & Research at IE Law School, Fernando Pastor, Vice Dean of Faculty & Research at IE Law School, emphasized how global challenges—from international trade to data protection—make legal professionals central to building a fairer society. He underlined that behind every agreement, regulation, or procedure lies a legal infrastructure that enables cooperation and progress, and encouraged students to learn how to strengthen it as part of their professional journey.

Keys to Professional Growth

Keynote speaker Constanza Vergara, Partner and Corporate Director at Pérez-Llorca, encouraged students to cultivate adaptability, integrity, and teamwork. She also highlighted the value of humility, openness to feedback, and continuous learning, particularly in the face of technological change. Addressing the rise of artificial intelligence, she encouraged students to view it not as a threat but as an opportunity to enhance their professional impact.

Blanca de San Román, Senior Manager of Admissions at IE University, presented this year’s class profile: a highly diverse cohort of students representing 28 countries and 37 nationalities, with women making up 60% of the group.

Inspiring Experiences

Two alumni also took the stage to share their perspectives. María Barragán, who completed the Doble Máster en Abogacía y LL.M. in September 2019 and is now an Associate at Clifford Chance, spoke about the demanding but rewarding path that prepared her to thrive in one of the leading law firms. Ana Valero, who graduated from the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in September 2024 and currently works as a Legal Associate in Financial Regulatory at Qualitas Energy, reflected on how the program gave her the confidence to overcome challenges, embrace new cultures, and grow as a professional. Both highlighted resilience, international exposure, and the strong sense of community as defining features of the IE Law School experience.

The event concluded with a call to action: to seize every opportunity—from legal clinics and debates to internships and pro bono projects—and to build a global network of peers. As Castrillón remarked, "you will see that your journey at IE does not stop in Madrid. IE Law School is deeply connected to the global legal community. Your education here places you in the middle of a worldwide conversation about the future of law."
