New edition of the IE Legal Challenge in Spain
In 2023, the IE Law School Legal Challenge is back, coming to different cities across Spain.
This competition, which tests law students’ knowledge and skills through the challenge of resolving a real case, will hold its semifinals in Seville, Valencia, Bilbao and Madrid. The IE Law School Legal Challenge would not possible without the valued partnership and collaboration with these law firms: Montero Aramburu, Uría Menendez, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Pérez-Llorca and Herbert Smith Freehills.
THE LEGAL CHALLENGE: A ONE-OF-A-KIND OPPORTUNITY
The Legal Challenge from IE Law School is a fantastic opportunity for those who choose to participate. It’s an empowering experience that allows law students to put into practice the knowledge and skills they’ve acquired, enter the world of work and gain self-confidence.
The selected participants will experience what it’s like to tackle a case under the day-to-day conditions of the profession: teamwork, deadlines, an international environment, communication with clients—and pressure. These future lawyers will have to work alongside other colleagues to present their solution before a jury, which is comprised of members of IE Law School and from various collaborating law firms, depending on the city in which students participate. The jury plays the role of client and will analyze the different solutions presented, as well as the skills of the team members, in order to choose the winner.
“The jury doesn’t look for the perfect answer, but instead looks at the capacity for legal argumentation and originality,” explains Lucía Ramos Pérez, a student of the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas. Lucía, who has taken on the challenge three times, recommends that future participants answer the judges’ questions without fear or hesitation, and that they get organized to make sure everyone on the team has a way to contribute.
REGIONAL SEMIFINALS AND GRAND FINALE IN MADRID
Different semifinals are first held at a regional level to decide which teams will face each other in the finale. The schedule of the semifinals is as follows:
- Seville, February 16, in collaboration with Montero Aramburu
- Valencia, February 22, in collaboration with Uría Menéndez
- Madrid I, February 23, in collaboration with Pérez-Llorca
- Bilbao, February 28, in collaboration with PwC
- Madrid II, March 9, in collaboration with Herbert Smith
The winning teams of the first phase will travel to Madrid to participate in the finale, which will take place at IE Tower. The event organizers will cover all of the participants’ travel and accommodation expenses.
A VALUABLE REWARD
In addition to gaining an incredible experience and getting exposure among the collaborating firms, the members of the winning team will also be able to enjoy a scholarship worth 25% of tuition for any of the Dobles Másters de Acceso a la Abogacía offered at IE Law School, where they can continue their education in a world-class specialized program.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
This competition is open to all students who are in the final years of their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). Following registration, the organization will select the strongest candidates to participate in the event and will divide the participants into teams. IE Law School will inform those selected by mail and will provide them with all the details to be taken into account for the first phase of the competition.
