The bilateral design of the current International Tax Regime (ITR) stands in sharp contrast to the multilateral logic that governs other areas of international law, such as international trade law.
However, the current OECD/G20/IF effort to create a new ITR for the 21stcentury pins high hopes on multilateralism, as the most effective means of addressing the Base Erosion Profit Shifting (BEPS) strategies of multinational firms and the aggressive tax competition policies implemented by certain jurisdictions.
The goal of this workshop is to discuss these developments and to reflect upon the prospect of transitioning towards a multilateral ITR.
