IE launches its Master in Business Analytics and Big Data

Students from 16 countries comprise the first intake of Master in Business Analytics and Big Data, which started this month.

The key aim of the program, which is run by IE School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is to equip managers to analyze large quantities of data to aiddecisionmaking in the business environment. To help achieve this IE will enjoy the support of IBM, which will collaborate with the practical activities of the program that will be led by members of the company.

The Master in Business Analytics and Big Data is an English-taught, full-time program which runs for 10 months, coveringsubjects that include Innovative Business Models Based on Analytics, Smart Cities and Governments, Financial Analytics, Marketing Intelligence, Statistical Models for Data Mining, Analyzing Social Networks, and Data Visualization. Students have an average of five years’ experience and come from sectors that include banking, healthcare, finance, consulting, public administration, consumption and technology.

IE Business School has signed an agreement whereby IBM will be collaborating with the program. Specifically, IBM will be working on an activity called Innovation Jam: Watson Challenge, which requires students to work in groups on case studies and ideas related to the use of innovative technologyproducts and services for IBM Watson. The technology uses natural language and its cognitive capacities include artificial intelligence and statistical reasoning systems. The system also learns from interaction with users and provides responses for complex questions by managing massive amounts of information (Big Data), a process that is revolutionizing the outlook for a large range of sectors. In order to streamline the learning process IBM will provide a panel of experts in Big Data and Watson, along with the relevant educational materials.

"Business and Big Data analysis is  one of the main technological engines that are transforming today’s business organizations”, explains Juan José Casado, Academic Directorof IE Business School’s Master in Business Analytics and Big Data and head of Big Data at IBM España. “There is a real need in the market to hire experts in the field who can assess and guide in change processes, which is why the launch of this program is very timely indeed.”
