In the biopharmaceutical industry, this study (813 patent infringement cases) investigates how multimarket contact (MMC) shapes intellectual property (IP) infringement-litigation dynamics. It finds that increased MMC decreases infringement and raises litigation probabilities for innovators, while imitators experience increased infringement and reduced litigation probabilities.
