Haozhe (James) Huang
I knew I wanted to pursue an education that was really applicable to my interests and my future ambitions. After graduating high school, I realized that pure science subjects like math weren’t for me. While I had always been very good at these subjects, I really wanted something that focused on the practical application of education to real-life challenges. In this sense, the Bachelor in Business Administration was a great fit. What’s more, I knew I wanted to prepare for the future, and IE University has so many fantastic career opportunities to enable me to further enhance my profile.

James Huang knew when he began his program at IE University that he really wanted to immerse himself in the language and culture of Spain. For this reason, he decided to live with a host family in Madrid while pursuing his studies. The experience was really wonderful, with James feeling lucky to have met Christina and feel a part of her family. Not only has she been a great support system for him in Madrid, but she’s also enabled him to try out a huge range of delicious home-cooked Spanish food.
The expansive career and networking opportunities that IE University provides have allowed James to take constructive steps towards his goal of working in finance. During the summer, James worked at the hedge fund Quadriga Asset Managers as an intern. While hedge funds do not normally take on junior profiles, James was able to leverage his drive, ambition, and academic success to take on this exciting role at one of Madrid’s leading firms. The first part of his internship consisted of conducting economic research and price modeling in order to provide evidence to support the fund’s investment decisions. During the second part of his internship, he moved on to financial modeling, and got to grips with more qualitative and mathematical techniques. The experience has cemented his desire to work in finance, and is an impressive addition to his CV.
In addition, James believes that one of the great advantages of studying at IE University is its highly diverse student body. He often spends weekends with a close group of friends, who frequently visit their favorite traditional Chinese restaurant for an amazing meal. Afterwards, they like to take a walk around the city and see the capital by night.
