IE University and White & Case foster young talents in the law sector

The two institutions have joined forces to launch the IE White & Case End of Degree Prize, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting education programs for the professional and international practice of future lawyers.

The winner will receive a scholarship funded jointly by the IE Foundation and White & Case to study a postgraduate program at IE Law School.

White & Case, one of the world’s top law firms in terms of services provided and turnover, and IE University, one of the most prestigious institutions worldwide for university studies, have signed an agreement to create the first “IE White & Case End of Degree Prize”. The prize is the result of a joint commitment of both institutions to foster talent among future law graduates.

This first edition of the IE White & Case End of Degree Prize takes the form of a competition aimed at students in their last year of IE University’s Bachelor of Laws program, with a prize for the best end of degree project.  The winner will receive a scholarship, sponsored jointly by the IE Foundation and White & Case, covering 55% of tuition fees of one of the postgraduate programs run by IE Law School. There are currently some 200 students from 39 countries studying IE University’s Bachelor of Law who will be eligible for the prize on completion of their studies.

Candidates for the current edition of the prize must send their end of degree project before May 31, 2015, to be considered by a judges’ panel comprised of members of IE and White & Case who will evaluate levels of academic excellence of the entries.

“It is a privilege for us to enjoy the support of a prestigious law firm like White & Case to offer a prize that reflects the interest that both institutions share in education programs with an international focus aimed at corporate law professionals,” said Soledad Atienza, Director of IE University’s Bachelor of Law Program.

The initiative, which is coordinated by White & Case’s Madrid office forms part of a drive to promote education programs focused on the professional and international practice of future lawyers. Outside Spain the firm has signed similar agreements, including one between its London Office and Cass Business School to sponsor a Mergers and Acquisitions Research Centre (MARC).

Juan Manuel de Remedios, managing partner of White & Case in Spain, said: “With this prize we aim to help foster talent and a culture of excellence among law students, who are the people who will be leading the legal counsel sector in the near future. The fact that we are doing this jointly with an international institution like IE fits perfectly with White & Case’s global approach to law.”

White & Case opened its office in Spain in March of 2013. Since then it has served as legal advisor in M&A and stock exchange operations with an estimated total value of €16 billion. In March of 2014 it opened its new office in Madrid’s Paseo de la Castellana and now continues to build on its commitment to Spain with the creation of the IE White & Case End of Degree Prize.
