IE University students go to Ghana to progress in the social Projects they are developing in the African country

A group of IE University students, from the Social Impact Lab, has traveled to Ghana this Sunday to study on the field the cooperation and development projects IE Business School and NGO Financiers without Frontiers are putting in place there.

The IE undergraduate students are collaborating in launching a micro-credit program in the rural community of Larbie, at Awutu. The objective of this program is so its inhabitants could create micro-business that will result in a benefit for the whole of the population. The goal is, so, to improve the life conditions at Larbie, so it can go forward with its own resources. That they will have an efficient mechanism to facilitate their economic autonomy and to reduce their dependence of external factors.

IE Business School has been making consultancies for micro-financial institutions on Ghana to improve their technical expertise so they will be considered by sources of founding. The undergraduate students, through the IE Social Impact Lab, have backed this work with the study of practical cases at class and organizing fundraising events to implement the project.

“In Ghana the students will meet with the leaders of micro financial sector organizations to learn about the industry; furthermore, they will assist to a series of workshops and participate directly in the microcredits project. They will learn how the clients are selected, have classes on financial literacy for microcredits beneficiaries, and follow through all the process of giving the money from donations on microcredits form.” Says María Luque, IE University Profesor. Students also will take notes and data from Larbie to measure the poverty level of its people and make a follow-up in the future.

In their visit, until June 22th, students will get to know the reality of this African country and will obtain a valuable experience, putting into action the knowledge acquired at classrooms. IE Social Impact Lab students will also take this chance to write a collective diary of the experience that will be on the social media.
