Vienna State Opera, ARCO and the world of jazz take center stage at IE University's Arts and Humanities Week

The Vienna State Opera, ARCO and the world of jazz will take center stage this week at IE University's Arts and Humanities Week, the institution’s week-long annual festival of concerts, masterclasses, exhibitions and workshops to reinforce the presence of art, music, dance, literature and other humanities disciplines to enrich the learning experience of IE University’s students from 140 countries.

Under the theme of ‘A Celebration of Human Experience’, this year's fourth edition of Arts and Humanities Week is an invitation to reflect on how the many expressions of the art and the humanities give meaning to our lives, develop our sensitivity and our critical thinking. To achieve this, IE University’s Arts and Humanities Division has organized workshops and events at IE University's Madrid headquarters in the financial district of María de Molina and the new IE Tower technology campus, as well as the historic campus in Segovia, located in the 13th century convent of Santa Cruz la Real.

Maribel López, Director of ARCO, will inaugurate the week-long series of events by discussing the economic importance of the art sector. López will be accompanied by Manuel Muñiz, Provost of IE University; Catalina Tejero, Director of the Division of Arts and Humanities at IE University; and Gonzalo Garland, Vice President of the IE Foundation. In addition, and with the support of IE Campus Life and the IE Jazz Band, made up of IE University musicians and singers, the IExhibition Gallery Space, a new area for exhibitions, art installations and live jazz music, will be inaugurated.

IE University students will be able to participate in the workshop From the Page to the stage, led by Tamzin Townsend, a Spain-based British theater director with extensive experience and whose production of El método Gronholm students will be able to see at the Cofidis Alcázar Theater in Madrid. Students will also be able to attend the Opening Night, contemporary dance show organized by the dance company La Veronal at the Centro Conde Duque.

Opera will be front and center at IE Arts and Humanities Week. In collaboration with the Vienna State Opera, students will be able to learn about 'La Traviata' in detail in the auditorium of the IE Tower, the new technological and sustainable headquarters of IE University in Madrid. Manuel Muñiz, Provost of IE University, will introduce the event in which Bogdan Roščić, Director of the Vienna State Opera, and Catalina Tejero, Director of the Division of Arts and Humanities at IE University, will discuss Giuseppe Verdi's work.

The Segovia campus will also host an extensive program of activities this week. Among them is a workshop with Mexican writer Jorge Hernández, who will analyze his novel 'El Bosque flotante' (The Floating Forest). In addition, Miguel Larrañaga, Vice Chancellor of IE University, will lead the first session of the Humanities in Conversation series and will moderate a debate on the book Lessons from Stoicism: What Ancient Philosophers Teach Us, by John Sellars. The week will conclude with a concert by the Escolanía de Segovia, organized jointly with the Fundación Don Juan de Borbón at Segovia Cathedral.
