IE Law School brought together leading universities from around the world to officially launch the PPLE+ Global Alliance, an inclusive network connecting institutions engaged in interdisciplinary education across Philosophy, Politics, Law, Economics, Public Policy, and related fields.

The initiative aims to foster flexible, collaborative partnerships among top-tier universities such as King’s College London, Singapore Management University (SMU), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the University of Edinburgh, ITAM, Universidad de los Andes, Luiss University, FGV Direito Rio, the University of Amsterdam, University of Pretoria, and IE Law School.

The two-day event, held on 13 and 14 November 2025 at IE Tower, marked a milestone in IE Law School’s vision to strengthen global cooperation and innovation in higher education.

Looking Ahead – A Global Vision for the Future of Work

The launch began with an inspiring conversation between Lee Newman, Dean of IE Business School, and Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE Law School. Their dialogue explored how universities can prepare students for an unpredictable professional landscape shaped by automation, data, and the evolving nature of work.

Dean Newman emphasized that "orchestration," rather than traditional management, will define the future of leadership: "It’s about understanding value and organizing teams to create it."

Dean Atienza stressed the importance of flexibility and adaptability, noting that "we cannot train students for specific jobs that may not exist in the near future." Instead, she urged educators to focus on nurturing judgment, creativity, and the ability to make sound decisions in uncertain contexts. "True creativity comes from individuals—having that dream or even that nightmare that sparks an idea," she added.

Both deans agreed that judgment, a skill rooted in experience and reflection, will be a defining asset for the next generation of professionals, particularly in a world where artificial intelligence is reshaping human roles.

Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Education for a World in Transition

The second day featured a thought-provoking panel moderated by Eugenia Castrillón, Vice Dean of Programs at IE Law School, with Olivia Hamill (Director & Head of Oxford Analytica Europe), Jaime de Aguinaga (Vice Provost at IE University), and Norberto de Andrade (Professor and Academic Director at IE Law School, and former Director of AI Policy at Meta). Together, they examined how academia, business and policy can work together to prepare the next generation of global problem-solvers.

Panelists discussed the importance of interdisciplinary learning to tackle issues such as misinformation, bias in AI systems, and regulatory divergence across jurisdictions. As Hamill warned, "misinformation is one of the top risks we face globally. To truly understand the phenomenon, you need to understand the regulatory environment behind it."

Andrade emphasized the importance of reducing uncertainty through experimentation. He described how, in his courses, he uses role-play exercises in which students step into the shoes of different stakeholders—each with their own agendas and tools of influence—to foster empathy, critical thinking, and a holistic understanding of AI regulation.

Aguinaga highlighted the value of experiential learning, encouraging universities to "try to emulate the conditions inside the classroom from outside the classroom." He underscored the need to connect academic knowledge with real-world practice through partnerships with companies and institutions that help students develop a shared understanding across disciplines.

Castrillón wrapped up the session by reminding attendees that "the university must be a sandbox for experimentation—a safe environment where students develop different abilities before applying them in the real world."

A Shared Vision for the Future

The event concluded with a collaborative workshop to design the Alliance’s roadmap. With the successful launch of the PPLE+ Global Alliance, IE Law School reinforces its mission to shape future leaders capable of bridging disciplines, cultures, and perspectives to drive meaningful impact in a world in transition.
