IE University welcomes students from the University of Arizona for a culture immersion course

Under an agreement with IE University, a group of students from the University of Arizona in Tucson, a US institution and an international leader in Technology and Engineering studies, takes part in a program of linguistic and cultural immersion in Segovia. For six weeks, thirty-two American students will attend classes on the campus of Santa Cruz la Real to learn Spanish language, literature, art and culture, taught by professors from IE University and the University of Arizona.

Students stay with Segovian families in order to get to know Spanish culture and customs, and have a thorough knowledge of Spanish when they return to the United States. To reinforce learning, students will be involved in a wide range of activities including guided tours of the most significant places of the city of Segovia - the Roman Aqueduct, the Alcazar and the Gothic Cathedral, as well as nearby cities like Toledo or Madrid, with its Prado and Reina Sofia.

"The fact that students live with families from Segovia enriches their learning experience about Spanish language, customs and culture," says University of Arizona Professor Linda Luft. In turn, tutor Jamie Wilson notes that "the hospitality that characterizes Segovian families makes students feel part of the family and they enjoy their new friendships, the Mediterranean lifestyle and the excellent Spanish cuisine".

Since 2002, IE University in Segovia welcomes groups of students from the University of Arizona – thanks to a ten-year-old program that each year exceeds the expectations of directors, assistants and students themselves, who return to their country practically bilingual. It is importantly to note the fact that IE University is located in the old Convent of Santa Cruz la Real, a XIII century building, which integrates innovative technologies applied to education. This is an ideal place to learn Spanish - with its unique historic atmosphere and the distinguishing feature of its student body, with over 75 nationalities and 60% foreign students.
