Antonio López de Ávila, IE Business School tourism expert, new Chairman of SEGITTUR
Antonio López de Ávila has been appointed the new president of SEGITTUR (Spanish state firm for the management of innovation and technology for tourism).
To date, López de Ávila has served as the Director of the Tourism Area and of the Executive Master in Tourism Management at IE Business School, where he also headed the area of Corporate Development of Tourism/Leisure, Transport and Services.
Prior to working at IE, López de Ávila worked as adviser to the Spanish government's Secretary of State for Tourism and Trade (2001-2004) and was the founding partner of IEGDE (Spanish Institute for Business Management). López de Ávila has extensive experience in the tourist sector, both in Spain and worldwide, and has collaborated with institutions like the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). He has also done research work focused on fields that include new technologies applied to tourism, the development of tourist destinations, creating tourism products, business tourism, wine tourism, and industrial heritage tourism.
López de Ávila holds a law degree from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and an Executive MBA from IE Business School.
