IE Business School expert Julio Gómez-Pomar appointed president of Renfe
Julio Gómez-Pomar, IE Business School expert in the public sector, was today appointed president of national Spanish rail transport company RENFE by Spain's Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Gómez Pomar had served until now as the director of the PwC and IE Business School Center for Innovation in the Public Sector, a unit dedicated to research projects, education and consultancy in the private/public sector arena.
Gómez-Pomar previously held positions that included Secretary of State for Public Administration (Ministry of Public Administration), General Director of Community Funds and Territorial Funding (Tax Ministry), General Director of Treasury of Social Security (Ministry of Work and Social Affairs), and General Director of Spain's National Institute of Social Security (Ministry of Work and Social Affairs).
Gómez-Pomar holds a degree in economics from Madrid's Autonoma University, and a doctorate in economics from Madrid's Complutense University, as well as a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University. He belongs to the Spanish State Tax Inspectors Corps and the Auditing and Accounting Technical Corps.
Julio Gómez-Pomar's appointment comes soon after the recent appointment of Luis de Guindos as Spain's Minister of Finance. De Guindos previously headed the PwC and IE Business School Center for the Finance Sector, as well as IE Business School's Managerial Boardroom Program.
