IE Business School’s Mikko Ketokivi Named to Thinkers50 Radar List
Upcoming Thinkers50 LinkedIn Live Event with Mikko Ketokivi to Focus on Efficient Organization.
IE Business School is pleased to announce that Mikko Ketokivi, Professor of Operations Management and Organization Design at IE Business School, is included on the 2023 Radar list from Thinkers50. Produced annually, the Thinkers50 Radar identifies a cohort of 30 up-and-coming thinkers whose ideas are predicted to make an important impact on management thinking in the future.
Dr. Ketokivi’s academic research and teaching focus on the economics of organization, operations management, and research methods. His special interests are contemporary views on general management and governance, topics that he approaches primarily from a practice-based perspective. He also focuses on theories of the firm, research methodology, scientific reasoning, argumentation, and philosophy of science. In addition to his academic interests, Dr. Ketokivi is an industrial entrepreneur who works with and invests in industrial start-up companies. Dr. Ketokivi is the author of three books, most recently Efficient Organization: A Governance Approach (Oxford University Press 2023) coauthored with Joseph T. Mahoney. His other academic publications include research articles on governance, strategy, operations management, and research methodology.
“I am extremely happy for this recognition for two reasons. First, and most importantly, I am delighted that efficiency is getting the recognition it deserves. Too often, when we think of efficiency, we think of the ‘bad kind’ of efficiency, which Joe Mahoney and I call ‘myopic efficiency’ in our book. Building on the groundbreaking ideas of Nobel Laureate Oliver Williamson, Joe and I focus on ‘sustainable efficiency.’
“Second, I am very happy to see my own work resonating outside the academic audience. I am a big fan of management theory but have always sought to maintain a strong link to the practice of management in my own work.”
