The Celebration of Diversity at the Annual Global Village
International students embraced their culture and traditions during the Global Village in Madrid.
IE University hosted Global Village 2024 at its Madrid campus, uniting students, alumni, staff, and friends to celebrate cultures and nationalities from all around the world.
The Paper Pavilion was decorated with vibrant flags, international music, and delicious food, including gyozas from China, syrniki from Ukraine, freshly made iced matcha from Japan and much more. Each stand provided an opportunity to learn about different cultures and sample their national dishes. More than 30 country club officers had the opportunity to represent their cultures, showcasing them to 350 attendees from all over the world.
“Global Village is the most enriching tradition. It brings together the community to celebrate one of the best assets we have: the incredible national and cultural diversity on campus,” said Sam Ferdinand, a Bachelor in Business Administration and International Relations student.
In addition to the international cuisine, some countries also organized cultural performances to add a memorable twist to the afternoon. The IE Philippine Club and India Club invited performers to present the national dances of their countries, which rallied the crowd and allowed them to indulge in music and dance together.
Global Village is an annual event that takes place in Segovia and Madrid, organized by Campus Life and Student Experience. Thanks to the close cooperation of departments, clubs, and students, the event has become a favourite among many members of the IE community.
“Global Village for the students is like the top of the iceberg, it is their day. They are sharing with the whole community our beautiful differences,” said Maria Caballero Garcia, manager at the Student Experience and the main organizer of this Global Village’s edition.
