A day in the life of a Human Resources Program student
We spoke with Cristina Calle Jorda to find out what her day-to-day is like in the Master in Talent Development & Human Resources. “As the future of HR is based on pillars of change and disruption, so will your day-to-day life as a TDHR student. No week is ever the same. Morning classes will usually start at 8:30 am, an early start that is noticeable on the faces of both professors and students. But that quickly changes as the practicality of the topics and debates sets the mood for engaging classes. You will live and breathe the future of HR, so much so that concepts such as VUCA, agility, cultures of engagement, and digital HR will be part of your everyday life.”
“Normally, most team meetings will be scheduled around this time of the day. Teamwork is a huge part of the TDHR program. Although I’ve developed a love-hate relationship towards it, teamwork truly reflects the reality of companies today. So, be ready to participate with international individuals with diverse professional backgrounds in all sorts of projects. Most recently, we had the opportunity to complete a consulting case on team dynamics for H&M, the clothing-retail giant.”
“Sometimes we have afternoon classes starting at 2 pm, but this depends on which day of the week it is. If not in class, you will probably find me working on individual or group assignments; the key is to not let the work pile up! I also try to attend interesting talks and seminars organized by IE Clubs. Most recently, at the IE Venture Lab for start-ups, I had the chance to meet entrepreneurs who created a personalized recruitment app, which uses relational math to find the perfect candidates for the right positions.”
“Depending on the day of the week, I might have meetings for the IE Consulting Club—I am helping to develop their recruitment and volunteer engagement processes. But if I don’t have any crazy deadlines to meet or work to finish, the TDHR class is a close-knit group, so we usually meet up for some beers and enjoy Madrid’s laid-back social life.”
