Amaya Úbeda de Torres

Amaya Úbeda de Torres has graduated in Law by the University Complutense of Madrid and obtained a Ph.D. by both the Universities Complutense of Madrid and Robert Schuman of Strasbourg (2006). She has been a lecturer and researcher in many universities, such as the Free University of Brussels, the London School of Economics and the University College of London, among others. Today she is principal legal officer at the Venice Commission, at the Council of Europe.

Amaya Úbeda has lectured in many conferences and seminars held in Universities in Spain and abroad, such as Columbia University, Costa Rica University, Sorbonne University, Cagliari University, Lyon University and others. She has published several books and an important number of articles on the dialogue of judges, the relationship between human Rights and democracy, International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Courts case-law.

MAIN PUBLICATIONS

Among her most recent books, she has authored, with Professor Burgorgue-Larsen, The Inter-American Court of Human Rights: case-law and commentary (Oxford University Press: 2011, 800p.). She has also published Democracia y derechos Humanos en Europa y en América (Reus: 2007) and has edited (with E. Bribosia et al.) L’Europe des Cours (Bruylant: Brussels, 2010). She has also published over 50 articles and book chapters in topics such as the dialogue of courts, Rule of Law, human rights, anti-discrimination policies and implementation of judgments.
