María Vela obtained the degree in Mathematics in 2004 and, after winning a grant of the Fundación Ramón Areces, she began her PhD thesis and began teaching at the Universidad Europea de Madrid. She became an assistant professor at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid in 2007. She combines teaching with research in different projects in areas from complex networks to spiral waves. She has participated in several research projects and she has published 5 articles. She has attended and has given several talks in national and international congress.
